I think you should buy it. It's the only way for you to understand that your Blu-Ray expectations are irrational.

I agree with crackin. There are better ways to spend around $1500 in your system.
$2000 basically for the Realta is too much. I would check out reviews on the new group of players coming in the next 2 months, and see how the upscaling is. The new Pios are supposed to do a good job at it (1.1), and the new Sammy 2500 (2.0) will have the Reon chip which is made by the same company as the Realta and does an excellent job upscaling. Thanks Woody; I don't want to consider a Samsung either, but I suppose I will consider the Pioneers and see over the next two months as you advised. |

![]() You don't seem to be satisfied with either std DVD or BD software playback on your TV. And the things you complain about, sound to me like typical EE, DNR and low resolution source material. I think your just obsessing. But, assume you do have a real problem, you don't seem to be doing any troubleshooting.. I read your other 4 page thread on upscaling DVD players. Did you once run the HDMI cable straight from the BD player to your TV to see if the picture looked any better? Did you try running a different HDMI cable from player to TV to confirm the cable isn't culprit. And lastly did you once try running component cables between you player and TV and setting the your system to 1080i. Just to find the root problem or to confirm that the picture your dissatisfied with is normal.. I think your expecting your expecting you BD player to make a silk purse from a sow's ear. Std. DVD's will never look like Blu-Ray and most Blu-Ray software will not look like the HD demo loops they played in the store to sell you that TV. I don't think you will be able to get past this until you spend a lot of money and bring home the best BD player you can afford. |

That's your opinion, and you're entitled to it, but you're absolutely wrong here -- are you saying I am imagining that there are jagged edges on every single DVD I play in this Panasonic? I'm not SEEING that, I'm just obssessing? Almost every reviewer who tests one of these decks claim that macroblocking, noise and jaggies plague DVDs played back upscaled on these players; the things I am describing and "complaining" about are are NOT the defects and faults that standard DVDs can exhibit...they are artifacts being introduced by bad scalers. I think your expecting your expecting you BD player to make a silk purse from a sow's ear. Std. DVD's will never look like Blu-Ray If you read my pages from my other threads like you claimed you did, you would have read, multiple times, that I AM NOT EXPECTING BLU RAY PERFORMANCE FROM DVDs...THAT'S NOT WHAT I AM SAYING...I don't expect DVDs to LOOK like Blu-rays at all...I know the difference. What I AM saying is that DVDs NEED TO LOOK BETTER THAN THEY DO NOW coming out of this Panny deck without jagged lines, macroblocking and smearing and pixelation...do you think this is the same thing as saying I expect DVDs to LOOK like Blu rays? ![]() and most Blu-Ray software will not look like the HD demo loops they played in the store to sell you that TV. Why is this? I could NEVER get a straight answer about whether or not I was actually seeing something different in a store than what was on discs we buy... I don't think you will be able to get past this until you spend a lot of money and bring home the best BD player you can afford. THAT'S what I'm trying to ascertain -- ![]() |
