Don't know if it was posted but for Canadians, they're releasing a steelbook at Future Shop.

Sweet mother of Jesus, it LOVE it. That's my favorite cover I've seen them use so far!

Looks like a jumbo to me. I don't necessarily have a problem with them but I'm thinking I might just get the Target steelbook still.

It has to be a jumbo. I don't think you can fit 5 discs in a standard steelbook.

That's what I'm thinking. I can't seem to recall seeing 5 discs, in anything other than a jumbo? 4 discs can work, but not 5, I believe.

That is a great cover but I have to wait for the Hobbit Trilogy EE Box Set to settle in next to my LOTR EE.

Heh or they might just pull a Best Buy and not include the 2D edition. I bought one of those last year and like it a lot since I bought the 2D Collector's Edition, but I can't imagine that BB sold too many of them.

That's a good point! I bought the same steelbook, and like it a lot. Definitely compliments the 2D Collector's Edition(which I also bought).

As of right now my plan is to buy the 2D Collector's Edition and the 2D Steelbook from Target, and eventually pick up the 3D discs for cheap for the steelbook. I like the 2D cover art better for the Collector's Edition so that's why I'm getting that instead of 3D. And eventually I'm going to pick up the DVD editions that match the LOTR EE DVDs. I fully expect to have about 50 discs worth of these movies by the time the inevitable Middle-Earth collection comes out (which I will likely buy )

I want to see pictures when that collection is complete!
I'm doing the same, and getting the 2D version. I'm sorry but the great artwork just lures me in!

You can never have too much Middle Earth. I'm both excited and dreading the Five Armies this December. It's a new film but the last film. Bitter sweet.

I'm going to need a bigger bookshelf lol. I'm in an even smaller room for my senior year of college and I just have a thin Walmart shelf to hold everything right now

So they just switched around the artwork compared to the Target version and reg 3D ... Would get it to go along with my 3D steel for the first, but fear itll be JUMBO sized, which i wasnt impressed with when i got the Walking Dead S4 steel from target

For five discs, it will definitely be jumbo-sized.

So far, every EE has improved on the theatrical releases of these films. I don't expect this to break that trend. Can't wait. I just need to see that Thrain subplot, damn it.

Agreed! I'm also looking forward to more Beorn and Mirkwood.

I just hope this will be easier to find than AUJ was for me. I had a hell of a time finding the 2D version in any store when it was released. I was only able to find the Best Buy steelbook on the day of release.

PS: my "Unexpected Booklet" project will continue for "The Desolation of Smaug" as well. Here a little appetizer so far:

I feel the same. In fact, I think this EE might bring the biggest improvement yet. While I prefer the EEs of all the films, Desolation of Smaug is the first one where I actually felt like something was missing in the theatrical cut. Can't wait to see what that half hour or so of new and alternate footage does for the film.

I like Desolation precisely because it's the shortest of all the Middle-earth movies so far, it moves at a fair old clip and it plays more like an action movie, only with barrel chases instead of car chases. It'll be interesting to see how the EE messes with that pacing, whether it bloats it out or whether it actually makes the film better.
