I LOVE this movie. The only issue with it is the voice-over narration differing a lot from how Jim Carrey sounds. Otherwise, I found this movie to be incredibly beautiful and moving.

I've seen the movie at least 20 times. The voiceover narration sounds like Jim Carrey to me. And, I agree, the movie is incredibly beautiful and moving.

This is great news. I adore this movie. Whenever I watch this one or Truman Show, I find myself wishing Jim Carrey's career had gone in a different direction.

Glad Warner is offering this as a stand alone title out of the gate. Nice not to have to wait or buy two other titles to get it.

I could never understand why this movie never really hit it off with general audiences. Everything from script to acting was a home run. This is one of my all time favorite movies ever!

I think the problem was that the average movie going audience was expecting to see another comedy from JC - when it turned out to be a drama, they were disappointed & stayed away. Personally, I found it an amazing story, and very educational - TM and Woody Allen's excellent '70's flick The Front are two of the best movies I've seen about the Hollywood blacklisting era....

Forgot that Laurie from The Walking Dead is also in TM - yet another great reason to re-watch this film...

To me The Majestic is a film that I can easily watch several times a year and often do, and gives me yet another DVD I can retire. That leaves 12 films in my collection that I am patiently waiting on announcements to make the upgrade from DVD to Blu-Ray, and 4 additional films that are either announced or already available in the US or overseas.

So glad they did an individual release for this. Have the others in the collection, so this outstanding news! I love this film, such a great Capra-style film.

When the box was announced, I watched the trailer for this...strangest thing, I feel like I've seen it, but being a Darabont, I'm in anyway.

Ordered!

The bluray site reviewer really rips this one a new one. 2/5 gotta be way too low a score for this as a movie.

I'll be blind buying this. I'm sure we can expect a 25GB disc though.

The fact we are getting this film at all on Blu-Ray is nothing short of amazing, sadly this film was a certified box office bomb, which was shocking to me when I read that, since I love this film, but for whatever reason didn't find an audience when it was initially released theatrically.

I not only don't understand why 'The Majestic' didn't do well at the box office, I don't understand how it was panned by many critics (it currently "enjoys" a paltry 42% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes). Maybe the two are linked?

But the late Roger Ebert knew what he was talking about, giving the film 3.5 out of 4 stars:

http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/the-majestic-2001

Richard Roeper liked it too, resulting in a "Two Thumbs Up" rating on Ebert & Roeper And The Movies.

Shawshank also drew flies at the box office. Sometimes audiences (ie. Americans) have no idea what's actually good and instead flock in droves to the latest Twilight/Hunger Games/Tweeny-novel junk. Hollywood has become so fixated on box office returns and pushing that "it's the #1 movie in the country" rather than focusing on the real reason you should go see it... because it's a great film. Even Guardians of the Galaxy, which is a great comic book film, was pushed as "made XXX bazillions so you should want your money in that pile to!"

Marketing plays a huge role in what movies people go to see and sadly marketing to American's has become "give us your money like all your friends did" or "here's the ending and most of the good parts so come see the rest".

Probably. I hope WB surprises us with a 50 GB release, especially give the length of the film. In any case, I'm glad it's making it's way to Blu-ray. A part of me didn't expect for it to and I love this film.
