The only thing wrong with the BBS set is it's not one of the options Snicket listed. That's what BG meant by being 'that girl'...it was a reference to those people who like to chime in with 'no, no, no, you don't want any of the stuff you listed, let me tell you what you really want'.

I've got some priority titles to buy first during the sale, and my decision whether or not to hit the Tati set will depend on how much money I have left over at the end of the month.

The fact that I still have not even started watching my Zatoichi set, my Cassavetes set, my Lean/Coward set, or my Demy set leads me to believe that the world will probably not crumble to the ground if I fail to buy the Tati set in November.
I don't have the Zatoichi set and I have watched Lean/Coward but yeah, very much this.

I've got the Kino release of The Complete Metropolis, and I love it. I was fortunate to see this restored version at a local theater when it first surfaced.

To the best of my knowledge, the Kino Blu-ray and the Masters of Cinema Blu-ray have the same version, but MoC uses original German intertitle cards. This DVDBeaver review will tell you everything that you need to know.

Get the Masters of Cinema. It comes with a huge booklet, way better packaging/cover and more extras. The presentation of the film itself is essentially the same.

The standard edition MOC still blows the Kino out of the water as far as packaging and art goes.

I've really anted to start collecting MoC because they offer a lot I would love that Criterion don't but just trying to focus on collecting from one company at th moment due to cost and Criterion for me are releasing more films I enjoy and I adore their presentations.

I mean I still buy standard blurays which never feel as special as getting a Criterion or other bigger companies like Plain Archive, MoC, Kino etc etc

But yeah MoC is shockingly cheap tbh lol

As far as I know, none of the films in any of the Eclipse sets have been released individually by Criterion even on DVD, let alone BD. Some had been previously released on LD, though: Osaka Elegy from the Mizoguchi set and The League of Gentlemen from the Dearden set come to mind. And Dearden's Victim was released on DVD on the Home Vision label (which, at the time, was one of Criterion's owners).

Is there a reason for this - as I am sure there are some brilliant films in some of the sets and shame its only limited to DVD and doesn't get full treatment >.<

You'd have to ask Criterion. I would assume its because the films don't exist in elements in good enough shape for Blu-ray without extensive restoration.

Wikipedia:

Quote:
The brand was created to produce budget-priced, high-quality DVD editions of hard-to-find films. The DVDs are released in boxed sets that typically contain between two to seven films across and focus on a specific film director. Future sets will also focus on themes. Typically, they are released monthly. In order to keep prices low, the films do not receive the same degree of remastering nor any of the special features generally associated with Criterion Collection titles. When Criterion announced that all of their future releases would be in dual format (DVD + Blu-ray) they specifically said that Eclipse was meant to be available in a cheaper form and thus would continue to be on DVD only.
We will eventually see some titles from the Eclipse line upgraded.

Series 4: Raymond Bernard (Wooden Crosses 1932) (Les Misérables 1934)

Both films have HD transfers that have/will be released in Europe, almost a dead cert for a CC blu-ray release. There are others available, but not as sure we'll be seeing them, Daisies, for example.

Ah thats fair - just shame they couldn't at least bump them unto bluray, but then they gotta deal with the bluray vs dvd stuff like the main releases lol

But i'd definitely start collecting Eclipse if they were bluray ^^ just know that won't happen any time soon!

Macbeth

I'd also like the Tati box, but the others come first.
I can't wait to use a 30% or maybe 40% coupon on the Tati set in conjunction with the 50% sale probably around Black Friday. The one thing I don't like about the Tati box is that Playtime got a lower rating on here on video quality because it is vastly different in color grading from the 2009 Criterion release as colors in the new version are warmer and less "cold" which makes it for a less authentic viewing experience.

I am planning on watching The Big Chill tonight probably! It just arrived in my mailbox a few days ago from the Criterion flash sale.

Wouldn't it great if new Criterion titles were announced once a week? I mean, could you imagine, looking forward to announcements 4 times a month? At that rate, so many old dvd titles will have a chance for (blu-ray) upgrades if its an average of 5 new announcements per week giving it a total of 20 per month. Ahhhh, maybe in a "perfect world" this might be real!

My ultimate dream would be for Criterion to have blu-ray editions of EVERY SINGLE title in their catalog in spine order!

Make it everyday haha! :P 365 releases a year

There are so many DVD's that need an upgrade though, would be nice if they did give them more attention, but then we lose out on new releases >.> I think it would be nice if they managed to do it equally each month, so half new and half upgrades.

No, not everyday, just once a week for now!

And yes, there should be more upgrades! Actually maybe twice a month would make sense... first part would be new releases, second part (announcements) would be only upgrades.

Have a Voucher for Ebay and was going to buy Metropolis from MoC - but why is it:

Quote:
150-minute feature film (including 25 minutes of footage previously thought lost to the world)
I saw a cut at cinema with new footage which was nearly 4 hours +

Really don't want to buy it if its missing the new stuff :/

It's so funny how I didn't even like Under the Skin and yet I like my avatar so much more than the movie. Maybe I should revisit the film again (only saw it once in the theater).
