Great idea for a thread.
I'm in Colorado and our best buys removed the 3d section and now just mix them in with the blu rays. It's making it hard to search out 3D titles that's for sure. |

I used to go to Best Buy with the mind frame "I want a new 3d movie, I'll head up and see what all they have". Now that they are mixed in you can walk the blu sections up and down over and over and still not see everything. It's annoying. |

Here in MN, they still have the separate 3D sections at Best Buy. At least the stores I have been in are still that way. The rest of the movies are mixed though which I despise.

My local BestBuy (Hartsdale NY) also mixed the 3-Ds in with the DVDs and Blus. First I complained to a blue-shirted BB employee and was told it was the decision of the rack-jobber. A week or so later I was there, saw the contractor doing the discs and complained to him and he said it was a BB decision. I guess no one wants to take responsibility for a bad move.

What are the rare 3d movies in your blu-ray collection? Rarity would include 3d editions not released domestically, special edition versions of 3d blu-rays, or 3d blu-rays with limited runs. It's time to brag guys.
These are the rare 3d gems in my collection: 1) Bons de Bico 3d aka Free Birds 3d - I have the Brazilian region A 3d version of Free Birds. It was a good thing I could import this because not having a 3d version for the U.S. release felt like a hard slug to the gut after having seen and enjoyed the wonderful 3d version in theaters. 2) Beowulf 3d - I bought the import from Germany. I had seen Beowulf before and was impressed but the 3d really adds a lot more immersion and emotional impact to the story. Get it if you're on the fence about it. 3) Target's exclusive Digibook release of Hansel and Gretel 3d - This had a very limited print run as a kind of initial promotion of Hansel and Gretel. Our Target got only two copies, one of which I happily picked up at store opening. 4) Maleficent 3d 5) Noah 3d - I thought this movie was visually meh at the theater. However, after having imported the 3d version, I was blown away by the quality of the 3d conversion. The 3d conversion puts this movie in a whole other league visually and they even altered scenes to enhance the 3d effect. This import is the biggest pleasant surprise I've ever had. 6) Ratatouille 3d 7) Best Buy Wolverine 3d exclusive - This is the black box edition with those cool art cards showing the different characters in the movie. 8) Thunder and the House of Magic 3d - This was a Walmart exclusive with a limited print run. This has some of the most impressive 3d I've ever seen in an animated film and makes me feel sorry for those who bought only the dvd version. |

I wouldn't consider any of mine rare, and i own pretty much every live action release and a hell of a lot of animation. I certainly wouldn't consider Noah 3D rare, just not released in all markets. Beowulf 3D is now available in germany, France and Italy to name a few, i wouldn't consider that rare.

![]() Off topic question: I am trying to remember an animated 3D film, not released in the states, that is similar (in theme) to Epic. Can't seem to remember the name of the flick at the moment....but it was released in 3D blu overseas and is suppose to have great 3D. Any idea?? |

The Final Destination, which is now difficult to get hold of and while not a great film, features one of the best uses of 3D I've seen.
I have the German BD of the 3D documentary Pina as the Criterion was too expensive, but it doesn't have English subtitles. The 50s Technicolor film noir/survival film nferno, I suppose. |

I'm not surprised that Noah's so good in 3D, that's another Prime Focus joint and them guys generally do very nice 3D conversions.
There are a few European releases of Noah 3D so I'll scope out the cheapest one and get it at some point. As for rarities, I've got some Japanese 3D porn, does that count? ![]() |

![]() As far as rare 3D Blus: I have the Japanese 'All You Need is Kill' 3D Steelbook on preorder. I believe that qualifies as a rare one. ![]() |

I am watching something called "best of 3d" at the moment which I imagine is kind of rare at least here in Australia as it hasn't been released here. It is filled with lots of short films with lots of strong 3d.😀

the only one I can add to the list that's not been mentioned already:
l'Ultimo Imperatore 3D (The Last Emperor) - Italian import - you have to search by the Italian name to find it which I think makes it even harder to know about. Haven't watched it yet though ![]() |
