Yes BigAl, I think that it where I want to end up; with a 2 or 3ch Naim or something driving the fronts and Anthem carrying the rest for movies, and the turning the Anthem off and just using the separate amp to drive for 2ch music. Just like callas’ setup I think😁 You are probably right about the Dyn’s transparency not mattering as much with movies, but I was pretty happy with them.

I will try to get some Audioquest Type 4 from my Paradigm Dealer and take it to compare to the Nordost White Lightning or even Blue Heaven when I go back to do more listening to the 160’s. I will just bring music when I go back from time to time and hopefully set them up with one of the Naim amps they have at the Dyn dealer, as I don’t want to have to bring in the Anthem with me whenever I go for a listen.

And by the way, thank you BigAl and callas and others for all your recommendations and knowledge with everything. I know I had Dynaudio and Totem as my top two choices, but just hearing your opinions of each and also what to listen for and expect from each one definitely helped me notice so much more that I would have brushed over otherwise. I know a person has to hear things for themselves as sound quality is so subjective, but getting a frame of reference from others who are more experienced made me feel much more comfortable making the decision. So thanks very much!😁

I would just get the 2 channel naim if you can and let your avr run the center and surrounds, your going to appreciate the 2 channel way more that way. I think like Oliver said music is much harder to reproduce like the artist intended than a movie is, and you can use the naim for your front right and left during movies anyway.
So you will have the best of both worlds!

True no need for power amp and I am taking that route anyways, so the 3 channel is out of the question if TWm goes integrated Amp instead of power amp. Power amp alone TWM you would still have to turn on the MRX710 for music playback.

Right, it would need to be an integrated amp like callas' so that it can do it's own processing and not use the receiver for music. Are there no 3ch Naim integrated amps, or are most 3ch amps just power amps that still need the receiver to process?

3 channel amps are power amplifier. An integrated is mainly an amp dedicated for 2 channel music playback but it can be used as a power amp also. They are called Integrated because the preamp section is in the same chassis as the actual amplifier. Most basic Integrated don't even have processing. Processing is done through the CD player and or a DAC. We can discuss that when you get to that point. . It's like a stereo receiver without the radio

All Integrated amplifiers are 2 channel.

Power amps can be:
1CH
2CH
3CH
5CH
7CH

the other thing is that rooms are so much of what we hear. my setup is more lively in this room then the last room, and that is with treatments. So theirs a very real possibility that I would have found it bright too. My dealer has a very well treated showroom with the ability to put a lot of space between the walls and the speakers, and you hear the speakers, not the room so much. The Sapphires to me were on the verge of bright. I felt the DM3/7 felt that way too.

Naim is a great product, there are many other manufactures that also have integrated amps that with a ht bypass/av gain function. Some are marantz, arcam, musical fidelity, creek. All of those pair well with Dyns so check out what you can.

Hey guys, so the Dyn 160's have gone back to the dealer However I did pickup the demo Anthem MRX710 for $1500 with full warranty on her! Ive had a day or two to set it up at home and it's sounding great, even better than I remember the 310 sounding at home.

Still have a bit of tweaking to do, but I'm just wondering what your opinions of using ARC are? I tried the EZSet EQ on my h/k when I first got it and wasn't very impressed, and also tried Audyssey on a Denon 788 I had before the h/k. Found both to optimize sound only in one seating position dead center in the room, going off axis and trying other seat's sounded hollow, boomy, boxy, echo type of sound. I know ARC is much more sophisticated, do you think its worth a go? My dealer said they would send someone out to set it up for me, but I said I probably wouldn't use it anyway. He said come back in a week if you change your mind and they'll still do it. Should I try it myself or get the dealer to set it up? Or just leave it the way I set it up manually?

Let the dealer do it. It's easy enough to do yourself but watch them do it and take notes for when you get new speakers. I would run ARC. If you don't like it you can just turn it off in the menu.

Ok I will try to get them in to set it up for me. Will the receiver also keep my manual settings saved that I put in myself so I can go back and forth turning ARC on or off to compare between the two? Or will ARC reset anything I put in already?

You can turn ARC on and off. You can also have settings for movie or music or just 2 different settings. Check out the MRX 310, 510, 710 thread at AVSForum. It's full of great info and helpful people.

The Anthem is the one piece I haven't thought about changing. Everything else has been thought about being replaced.

This is because you are not willing to spend the extra 3K for another processor as the Speakers will be bring you the most significant difference in sound, sat least you get the feeling something has changed.

Cool, you must be pretty happy then. I read on Secrets of Home Theater HiFi that the reviewer thought the MRX510 was as good as his Marantz AV7005 preamp, and the preamp alone without amplifier costs as much as the Anthem. Pretty impressed with mine, just curious what the difference will be with ARC. Will stop by in the next couple days to setup a time for them to come by and do it.
