I just watched Night of the Demons, after Shout apparently sent it overnight to make up for the delay in shipping it out. It was a very unspectacular setup for a movie that had enough idiosyncrasies to make it really fun. The opening credits sequence in particular is one of the best I can think of in a horror flick, it is very stylish and does a great job of setting the tone. I liked the bonus interview with one of the animators on it (who had a rep at disney for being the woman that was morbid and good at doing villains!).

The movie itself starts off great with a lot of amusing 80s dialogue and humor (like the awful younger brother and the even more awful old man), kind of gets boring for a while, but then comes back to life in a big way with a couple of fantastic monster scenes like the creative use of lipstick and the dance routine. The main demon actress is a lot of fun, and so's Linnea Quigley of course. There are a few good gore effects, and the one at the very end of the movie actually did manage to make my throat hurt in response, haha. It's such a pointless final scene, but so good.

By far the most shocking thing about this movie was that
[Show spoiler]the black guy survived. It was doubly surprising since they just made him cowardly through most of the movie, and usually the coward is the first to go, unless there's a black guy!
It was certainly a surprising change of pace.

I loved the interview with Amelia Kinkaid in the bonus features, she is so enthusiastic and entertaining about the movie and I loved the path her career took and even her commentary on why the fans have said they like her character so much. What a sweet lady!

So yeah, I am glad I gave this movie a second chance. The first time I watched it was a horrendous VHS rip that someone had shared on MYSPACE of all places several years ago, obviously I did not have a good first impression of the movie at all!

Did Scream get the rights to "The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane?" If not, has anyone heard any rumors about whether Twilight Time or Kino got the rights to this? It's a terrific Jodie Foster movie.

If they have, it hasn't yet been announced.

If you go to the Shout! Factory website there is a link there to suggest a title to them for potential pick up. Talk about audience participation. I'm typing on my iPad so there is no way for me to include the link, but you can google the site. Try it out. I haven't, but you never know.

With the success of the Vincent Price sets I wonder if we will see other box sets or actor/director collections soon.

While on a double feature frenzy I wish SF would release Sleepaway Camp 2/3.

Amen..

Though I would be more interested in a special edition with part 2. One of my favorite old school horror movies.

I would love to see a Christopher Lee or Peter Cushing set.. They could even release a set that features both stars as they made many films together....

I would love to see a Ray Milland box set with Panic in Year Zero, The Premature Burial, and X: The Man with X Ray Eyes.

People are talking about their wishes for Scream Factory multi-movie sets (Ray Milland set, Christopher Lee set, Peter Cushing set, etc.).

I'll throw a curveball into this idea. In light of the announcements for Squirm, Frogs, Tentacles, and such, I'd love for Scream Factory to resurrect all of those killer bee movies from the late 1970s.

A Scream Factory set including The Deadly Bees (1966), Killer Bees (1974), The Savage Bees (1976), The Bees (1978), The Swarm (1978), and Terror Out of the Sky (1978) would be right up my alley.

The Bees (78) is coming from Vinegar Syndrome, so a slight problem there.

That is one of the very few MGM midnite movies that no one's announced yet that I'd buy in a heartbeat. I love that movie so much. Theatre of Blood's the only other one I can think of I hope that someone gets a hold of, but I vaguely remember seeing somewhere that there was some reason they wouldn't be able to get it, otherwise it surely would have been in the Vincent Price collection II.

Shout Factory already released Invasion of the Bee Girls in one of their budget 4-movie marathon DVD's and I believe it was the same edited print MGM used on their original DVD (missing a nude scene). The uncut version came out on an unauthorized dvd from Catcom years ago. Shout may do a Blu of it eventually as they've upgraded a couple of those budget titles to Blu, but it will still probably be edited.

I would love to see the 160+ minute cut of The Swarm, because if you're going to watch that film, it might as well be for every painfully over-acted minute. But since it's with Warner, I don't see Scream doing it.

This is probably one of the rare films where the US and Canadian distribution rights are held by separate entities. It also looks like the title is only available on amazon.ca as an import, so I'm guessing Shout! Factory only has US distribution rights to the film.
