Yep. Exactly.

Here's what I don't get: Marvel hasn't once let down in their casting. So why suddenly now is this the bad one? Shouldn't they be going after the incredibly talented actors who can own the roles, but also gel into the MCU? Because Cumberbatch is exactly that. He's an amazing actor, and he'll kill the role, and fit into the MCU very well. He's just the kind of actor who could be the face of the MCU once Downey, Jr. parts ways, which Is a big part of this casting. But the big thing is, Cumberbatch can act, so I don't see how anyone can be upset about a great actor getting the role. Marvel has not misstepped in their casting yet, so how about people just chill out and wait to see what happens with it. They clearly chose him for a reason, so maybe give Marvel the benefit of the doubt before overreacting like one of the posts above. If you aren't willing to and you're out of the movie, I'm sure Marvel will miss your $10, but to leave over a great actor getting a role, that just seems beyond absurd.

Is there truth here, or did Phoenix just not want to be tied down to a multi-picture contract?

I'm cool with the casting. Now Fox, get Tom Hardy for Apocalypse. What I'm waiting for the most.

How is he tied down?!

Have These actors not made anything else:

Robert Downey Jr.
Chris Hemsworth
Chris Evans
Scarlet Johansson
Samuel L. Jackson
Mark Ruffalo

Hell if anything MARVEL projects have given them a larger fanbase for projects they may not have received, otherwise!

I still don't see how that means he "screwed himself up" or makes him a "douche."

Just because he passed on the role? It's unfortunate, but whatever.

It was how he lead them on, taking them beyond Comic Con, where they wanted to make an official announcement. That's why it seemed so anticlimatic this year, their big reveal was ruined buy this goof.

see my other post regarding other cast members, for the rest.

You don't have to agree. My opinion. Which only amounts to chatter.

Oh great, another actor who's up for everything.

That's really my only issue with this, I wanted a more unique actor in the role. Cumberbatch is everywhere, and he is a popular choice. That said, I'm sure he'll be great, especially given Marvel's track record with amazing casting.

Well I am torn apart a little bit about this news. On one hand he's a great actor, but on the other, he's not the one who comes to my mind at first thinking about Dr Strange. But I trust in marvel and their decision. Time will tell.

But this is the Internet! And it's comprised of experts! They know the future! And everything is going to suck!

It's also worse with comics fans, and this is coming from a comics fan. Don't you know that the filmmakers are supposed to consult the fans on every little detail before they make a decision?

The best news I've heard in a while. Great casting, I would've been happy with Phoenix too though.

Been a fan of this pick and was bummed when Cumberbatch said the shoot dates wouldn't fit his schedule. Hope the negotiations go through and both parties sign on the dotted line.

In other news, now I can put 100% of my Ewan McGreggor casting desires back behind the Obi-Wan movie

Well, glad they did find themselves a popular actor if not quite an A lister to take on the role. Now Colin Farrell for Iron Man.

They really should consult with the butthurt fans who will still be first in line on release date. Maybe it would validate their existance. Make them feel needed and important.

Considering that Marvel has yet to make a bad casting decision (except for arguably ScarJo over Emily Blunt), I'm not gonna cry foul over Cumberbatch. But there are at least a couple other actors reportedly under consideration that I preferred - mostly Ewan McGregor.

I'm so confused by a lot of the negativity with the Cumberbatch casting. It seems like every thread I visit has a ton of people wanting him cast for various movie roles, yet now that he IS cast in a popular title, there is all of this complaining! I thought he was a fan favorite?

I will admittingly state that I know nothing of the Dr. Strange character since I'm not a comic book reader (love comic book movies though), so I can't comment on how well he fits the character. I'll be first in line to see this since I'm a big Cumberbatch fan.

Cumberbatch is a great actor, with an amazing voice. He suits the gravitas of The Sorcerer Supreme very well. I'm perplexed by the minor backlash in this thread.
