I'd agree. Rather than Taxi Driver I'd say it sits closer to King Of Comedy.

Definitely! Some comparisons to be made to both that (fast-speaking, estranged loser deludedly seeking fame and success) and Scorsese's later Bringing Out The Dead (although Cage's character in that had a definite conscience about what he was doing, but the frenzy is similar).

I instantly thought of Drive when I saw the trailers because of the cinematography, setting, and obviously all the driving. The film itself though has a different tone than the cool, stylish trailers.

Also, I had no idea that Riz Ahmed was the lead in Four Lions! He and Rene Russo are also fantastic.

Yeah, his accent here is really well done, I didn't realise it was him until after I saw the film, probably helps he has a different hair do and a hoodie that makes him look younger as well.

Yeah I totally thought he was American. And yes he looks very different and younger.

Just back from seeing this.
A very good film, Jake Gyllenhaal is excellent and carries the film. Some very tense moments.
It's not quite the ultra dark, cool cult movie the marketing wants it to be. The score jars at moments and some scenes seem out of place with the style the director is going for.
Still a definite purchase.

I can see the comparisons in the main character traits but overall not really. To me, the film is getting at something different. I can't wait to watch it again.

Well of course it's different, it's a different film! Still think it's closer to De Niro's character in The King Of Comedy than to Taxi Driver, if there's gonna be a comparison. But it's its own film, so shouldn't really need the parallels - it's pretty inexplicable which probably fuels the need for comparisons. I can't wait to watch it again either!

It is compared with Drive because they both have elements of a neo-noir.

I was thinking it was like drive. Well shot but the sound track wasn't near as good.

Greepy movie to be fair

Yeah, the whole time I was watching Drive for the first time I was thinking "this isn't as good as Taxi Driver".

Just out of curiosity, why do you want to import the US release? They seem to have the same special features, and the US artwork is much worse than the UK's. I'm actually going to be importing this version over to the States.
