Yes, but that could mean a number of things, new chips, manufacturing process, different wireless chip manufacturer, replacing the GDDR3 with 2 banks of 1Gbit instead of 4 512Mbit, there are plenty of reasons. Outside of that, if PSEye and Move were to be bundled in the box then the product will need certification.

Heh, can't get any clearer than that without a podium.

So it would need certification for that. Hmm, thought it was only when a chipset changed inside..

dont tel him. the surprise look on his face is what drives a parent.
make sure to bring the camcorder....the camera is cool but the camcorder captures every expression.

you sound like a very very good parent.
the hardest part i have is the discipline. im a man so i try to drill in his head 'every action has a consequence'
whteher its good or bad there is an outcome.
i reward him for the good but for the bad my wife likes to let him off the hook which i hate.
i dont want a punk kid when he is 14-17 talking back to me and god forbid his mother, i dont play that crap.

tuff love = the best love.
on the flip side, reward him whenever possible.

Don't misunderstand me. I don't know what is changing to warrant this. My best guess is cost reduction and a reduction in the number of parts on the motherboard. It is unlikely that Sony would submit Move bundles without the secrecy that the FCC offer.

Too early for 32 / 28nm? 'cause the Sony Style site showed the PS3 as "Starting from $199" for a couple days, they just changed it today.

Definitely. The cost reductions are likely to do with cooling and PSU requirements decreasing. I can't see how there is any way Sony or Toshiba are on 28/32nm it is totally unrealistic, especially considering 32nm Cell is still in design phase (needs a whole new pin config and memory controller design to be suitable for 32nm).

That's kinda what I thought, but wasn't sure. I also noticed TSMC (they fab the RSX, right?) is starting 28 nm now, but I'd assume the RSX would also need a hefty redesign, and knowing TSMC's luck, the yields will probably stink for a while anyway.

If you are planning on picking up a new slim, just get the new 160gb slim model. That will ensure you are getting the latest and greatest. Not sure its any different than the 120gb slims out now but for the same price you get 40gb more of storage.

If the serial number on the outside of box has "CECH-2001" it is the older revision, if it has "CECH-2101" it is the newer more desirable one.

Had to buy a new 250 GB PS3 Slim to replace my "near-death" 80 GB (upgraded to 320 GB) MGS4 Bundle PS3. And I can confirm! Quieter! Cooler!

I am happy.

Sad for the 80 GB (upgraded to 320 GB) MGS4 Bundle PS3, but...

You KNOW I ripped that 320GB drive out and put it in the Slim, right?!?!

Damn Straight I Did!

BTW: Any advice on how to go about sending the 80 GB PS3 to Sony for GPU repairs?

How much cooler does the new model run versus the PS3 slim?

I mean, I used to own the original 60GB PS3 first and then switched to the PS3 slim and I notice the improvement in airflow but I wonder how the new model compares to the 120GB PS3 slim.
