Disabling BD-Live enabled Universal discs to load much quicker so I'm happy with that.

Never tried it. Had no interest in ever connecting my BD player to the Internet.

The only disc with worthwhile BD-Live features was Tropic Thunder, which had so many special features that they ran out of space on the disc. It's been a waste on every other disc I looked at.

All the features that seemed cool were discontinued fairly quickly. By the time I had a player that could do BD-Live, I checked all the discs that listed the "Record your own commentary" feature only to see that it had been discontinued! Nowadays you're lucky if the player still does ANYTHING when you click on the BD-Live link, most of them try to connect and can't find it anymore because it's been taken off-line! The ones that still do go online haven't ever been updated either- Fox discs go to previews for movies that were new at the time the disc came out, and they've never added any after that or taken out the old ones that said "Coming Soon" but have been out for years.

My player is connected to the internet for Netflix, Amazon and MLB, but I have never used BD Live once. So happy players let you turn it off.

I attempted to try it once, but it would not load anything so I gave up. I'd be curious to see what capabilities it actually has/had.

Firmware updates are faster and easier when the machine is connected directly to the internet.

The BDA promoted the ability for a consumer to be able to download additional subtitles and/or audio tracks. As far as I know those features never came to fruition.

So is spying on you and what you watch. I've never seen a need for it or really even thought about connecting my player. I'll get my firmware the old fashioned way, by burning a data cd!

I don't even have my BD connected to the Internet anymore. I connect it maybe once a year to check for updates, if I think of it - but since I haven't run into anything that doesn't play or requires one in a long time, I often don't even think about it at all.

I haven't had a BD player require an update in a while - my original BDX2000 took 10 minutes to load a disc but would still work, my philips hasnt had an update since I bought it and has no issue playing any disc.

As for BD-Live - I remember it being advertised but have never used it. I have no clue what it was supposed to do.

It has only served one purpose for me. The Survival of the Dead blu-ray has an additional commentary with George Romero that you can download via BD-Live. Since I'm one of about five people that actually own this blu-ray, it's probably a moot point.
