The reviews are starting to come out and they're overwhelmingly positive...although it doesn't look like Leo's year to get a nod.

Seems like its pretty likely he will get another nomination, though.

I dunno, most the early award ceremonies like the critics choice haven't given him a look in, especially in such a competitive year again as well.

I think Ejiofor has Best Actor locked up. It's his to lose (and I don't see him losing it).

I really hope Leo gets a nom put Bruce Dern, Ejiofor, and Tom Hanks have 3 spots reserved as locks.
I honestly think the other two spots could go to M. McConoughey, Robert Redford , or possibly even Bale
Phoenix could end up sneaking in as well if Her keeps building that momentum.

A very good performance, but overrated. Hank's, imo was better, especially with what he did with last 10 minutes in that movie. Yet to see WOWS and American Hustle. Leonardo, has been snubbed multiple times, so it happening again, will not be a surprise. It's a joke he has no Oscar, with what he has been doing, going back to Catch Me If You Can.

1994; Best Supporting Actor Tommy Lee Jones (Fugitive)
2005; Best Actor Jamie Foxx (Ray)
2007; Best Actor Forest Whittaker (Scotland)

It's not a joke, it's just bad luck; these are all deserved winners. Never really understood the whole "snubbed" argument; replace DiCaprio with another nominee and in turn, that person will be considered "snubbed" and so forth, and so forth. There can be only five in each category, people. How many great movies with great performances are released each year? Yeah.

Ejiofor, Dern and Wooderson are locks for sure. The last two spots will go to Bale and Hanks IMO. Would be surprised to see Leo get in.

He'll never get an Oscar because he can't act. I don't care how many high-profile films he's starred in; he is simply unable to make things look effortless like truly gifted actors.

Jamie Foxx, Ray did a 2 hr SNL impersonation or Ray Charles. Leonardo, should have won, and was not even nominated for Shutter Island or Django, both of which he could have won for, especially the latter. He is the best and most reliable actor of his generation, just gets passed over for very forgettable performances b/c of politics and money. Ray, is the prime example.

He will end up being like Pacino, and get an Oscar when is about 60 for a supporting role in some bad romantic comedy.

Also on the this movie, Scorsese has a grand total of 1 directing Oscar. Raging Bull and Goodfellas, were not good enough. Just shows the validity of AMPAS.

Well, no, that would be Nicolas Cage. I see your point though, the Cap is certainly top tier.

It's too bad, but true. Better late than never?

Well, to be fair 1980 was chock-full of great films. Ordinary People was a worthy choice, and Elephant Man or the un-nominated Shining also would not have ruffled my feathers. Goodfellas the stronger argument could be made for.

Hang on. No one ever said they had any validity in the first place. I'm not even sure what you think people think they are valid for. It's just some random people's opinions, and if they think Dances With Wolves > Goodfellas, well, no skin off my nose. I know which film I have in my rotation more often, and isn't that what matters?

I personally think he should have won all the times he was nominated. But the biggest Oscar insults are when he doesn't even get nominated, like for Revolutionary Road which is one of the best performances of his career. Not getting nominated for Django Unchained was a strange omission too, especially considering who got in instead of him.

And also Jesse freaking Eisenberg got nominated for Social Network in 2011 over DiCaprio's performance in Shutter Island.

I think Eisenberg deserved to be nominated, but those three DiCaprio performances you mentioned are definitely some of his best, although in 2008 he probably still would have lost to Penn and Rourke, but he was at least the third best male performance of that year.

Again, I hate to say it, but I don't mind that. Both were great performances in great movies in a year that seemed sadly lacking in both (I said seemed, before people jump down my throat; in retrospect and looking at stuff not theatrically released near me, I see it was solid, but I just remember coming home from the theatre disappointed all the time that year), and I don't mind that Eisenberg grabbed a nom.

Not hating on the Cap, I love the guy, but I don't think he's necessarily been actively shafted.

As opposed to what. He was playing Ray Charles and he was excellent doing it. He deserved the Oscar, get over it.
