Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio Together Again On ‘Wolf Of Wall Street’

After crying wolf before, Martin Scorsese now plans to follow through and direct The Wolf of Wall Street with Leonardo DiCaprio, with Boardwalk Empire's Terry Winter having adapted the Jordan Belfort memoir. They will announce financing and a start date in Cannes. Scorsese plans to make the film after he finishes post on Hugo Cabret and then films his dream project, Silence, an adaptation of the Shusaku Endo book that now has Bencio Del Toro attached.[/COLOR]

[COLOR="Navy"]Scorsese and DiCaprio were keen to do the project together several years ago, but it stalled in a tug of war between Warner Bros, which controlled the project, and Paramount, which had a rich deal with Scorsese that entitled the studio to share the film. When that dragged on, Scorsese and DiCaprio made what turned out to be a great decision: they instead did Shutter Island. That turned out to be a big hit for each. Most recently, Ridley Scott made plans to board the picture as director, because Scorsese didn't think he'd have time after committing to the 3D Hugo Cabret, and mulling The Irishman, a Steve Zaillian scripted adaptation of the mob memoir I Heard You Paint Houses, with Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci starring. Scott instead committed to the science fiction film Prometheus and Scorsese has swung back around to make his fifth film with go-to guy DiCaprio. DiCaprio will play a Wall Streeter with a raging drug habit and hard partying lifestyle that ultimately brings him down. Belford spent 22 months in federal prison for stock market manipulation. Despite the sound of that, I'm told the script is funny, dramatic and fast paced, and manages to make something of a sympathetic character out of a stockbroker who supervises a cadre of brokers who squeezed clients to buy stocks that paid off--for the brokers, who used the funds to live extravagantly until they were brought down by the feds. It actually sounds a bit like Goodfellas, and it's not hard to imagine the Wall Street crowd of the 1990s taking the place of mobsters.

Alexandra Milchan, Appian Way and Scorsese are producing. Said Belfort: "After almost four years in development, I can't begin to tell you how thrilled I am to finally be working with Leo and Marty on this. They're the ultimate dream team, and it was definitely worth the wait." Belford has been sober 14 years and makes a living as a motivational speaker and corporate trainer. DiCaprio is currently starring for Clint Eastwood in J Edgar, the biopic of FBI head J. Edgar Hoover.

Scorsese's plan to finally do Silence would also bring to fruition a project Scorsese has been burning to direct since 1998. The director and GK Films nearly had the pic together with Del Toro, Daniel Day-Lewis and Gabriel Garcia Bernal in the Jay Cocks-scripted saga of Jesuits who face danger as they preach Christianity and try to find their mentor in 17th Century Japan.

We now have Leo DiCaprio as “The Wolf of Wall Street” to anticipate

Now that Martin Scorsese has successfully completed Hugo and Leo finally finished the The Great Gatsby, it’s about that time again when Leonardo DiCaprio and the director come together, now for the fifth time, to bring us another great movie. This year the two will be working on The Wolf of Wall Street, based on a memoir written by Jordan Belfort.

Belfort, who lived an alcohol and drug addicted life as a stockbroker in the 90s, made thousands of dollars every day in a matter of minutes, but his addictive habits and outlandish partying (he once ran up a $700,000 hotel tab) lead to his own darkness after selling a series of artificially inflated stocks.

USA Today published an excerpt from Belfort’s story that will give those who haven’t had a chance to read the book an idea of how Belfort’s life on the job operated on a day-by-day basis:

“Being a Master of the Universe; it seemed like a noble pursuit, and as I walked past the Masters, in my cheap blue suit and clodhopper shoes, I found myself wishing I were one of them. But my new boss was quick to remind me that I wasn’t. ‘Your job’ – he looked at the plastic nametag on my cheap blue lapel – ‘Jordan Belfort, is a connector, which means you’ll be dialing the phone five hundred times a day, trying to get past secretaries. You’re not trying to sell anything or recommend anything or create anything. You’re just trying to get business owners on the phone.’ He paused for a brief instant, then spewed out more venom. ‘And when you do get one on the phone, all you’ll say is: ‘Hello, Mr. So and So, I have Scott holding for you,’ and then you pass the phone to me and start dialing again. Think you can handle that, or is that too complicated for you?’”

The Wolf of Wall Street has been kept in mind for film adaptation since Scorsese purchased the book’s rights in 2007, and we look forward to Leo taking on Belfort’s role as a greedy, coke-head stockbroker. In fact, we can’t think of any other actor that would be more fitting. And for crying out loud, will the Academy just award him his overdue Oscar already?

The Wolf of Wall Street Adds Kyle Chandler

Kyle Chandler is joining Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill in director Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, Deadline reports.

The film, based on Jordan Belfort's best-selling memoir, features an adapted screenplay by Terence Winter (�The Sopranos,� �Boardwalk Empire�) and chronicles Belfort's (DiCaprio) dramatic rise and fall on Wall Street, along with his hard-partying lifestyle and tumultuous personal life, which included drug and alcohol addiction.

Chandler, best known for "Friday Night Lights" and for a role in last summer's Super 8, will play Coleman, an FBI Agent tasked with taking Belfort down.

Red Granite principals Riza Aziz and Joey McFarland are producing along with DiCaprio (Appian Way), Scorsese and Emma Koskoff (Sikelia Productions) and Alexandra Milchan (EMJAG Productions). Irwin Winkler and Georgia Kacandes will executive produce.

Jean Dujardin Eyes The Wolf of Wall Street

The Artist star Jean Dujardin is in talks to join the cast of Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, Variety reports. He'd join Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill in the film, based on Jordan Belfort's best-selling memoir.

Terence Winter ("The Sopranos," "Boardwalk Empire") adapted the screenplay, which chronicles Jordan Belfort�s (DiCaprio) dramatic rise and fall on Wall Street, along with his hard-partying lifestyle and tumultuous personal life, which included drug and alcohol addiction.

Dujardin would play a Swiss banker who becomes involved in Belfort's illegal dealings.

Jon Favreau has joined the cast of Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, Deadline reports. He'll play a securities lawyer opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Kyle Chandler, Jean Dujardin, Jon Bernthal, Rob Reinger and Margot Robbie in the drama, based on Jordan Belfort's best-selling memoir.

Matthew McConaughey has joined the cast of Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, Deadline reports. He'll play Mark Hanna, an early boss to Leonardo DiCaprio's character.
