Can't hurt to pre-order this one, they don't charge you til it ships anyways.
That's kind of a bad example as it's a complete series, not just one season! Not sure how many season are in Deadwood(4, 5?), so around $100 would seem logical for that much content($20-$25/season), anything less sounds like a really good deal!
I believe the $79.99 is MSRP, which no sensible BD shopper ever pays!

This would be absolutely fantastic. A show like this would literally sparkle in Blu-Ray; it was really made for it. I'm glad George R.R. Martin didn't sell off the rights to the series to the first bidder he saw, because HBO can really get this fantastic world the recognition it deserves.

Perhaps he has the same influence as JK Rowling

If you squint you can kind of read the special features:
- Blu-Ray Complete Guide to Westeros
- Anatomy of an Episode
- In-Episode Guide
- Hidden Dragon Eggs
- Making of Game of Thrones
- Creating the Show Open
- From the Book to the Screen
- Character Profiles
- The Knights Watch
- Creating the Dothraki Langauge
- Audio Commentaries (it looks like it says 7 audio commentaries)
I would have loved to see the Google Masterclass with George Martin from earlier this year.

That would have been the icing on the cake

Merely 2 seasons of Deadwood. Goes for 96.99 on Amazon now, MSRP is 209.99!

Same goes for Rome, 2 seasons for 79.99. MSRP is 139.99. These went on sale for 20 apiece recently only at Costco, so we're talking YEARS after the fact to finally get a decent price.

Just saying it might actually be closer to that MSRP than we think so best to pre-order now.

True Blood also retails at $79 but can be had in the $20 to 30$ range if you are patient. I for one wont be preordering near the $79 price point for GOT. Good series though, hope Martin gets back into his old form with the next book release.

My guess is that someone has this in their ad on release week for $34.99. Seems to be the typical price point for a new HBO series release. True Blood seasons are typically $34.99 on release week and this should be a comparable release.

Hopefully a day one purchase, if the price is $39.99 or lower it probably will be.

I have watched the first season four times through already, and am looking forward to the official release (picture quality with HBO HD recordings is already fantastic, but the commentaries and supplements plus the proven re-re-re-watch-ability has got my psyched to own). And of course, who knows if BD will even be mainstream by the time a complete set could be released in 202X The only thing I am cautious of is spoilers as they pertain to the series being leaked in the commentary. I have read the first book in the interim, and it is interesting how many of the open-ended questions in the TV series (the supplier of the dagger for example, the "possible" identity of other characters) are all but conclusively settled via inner monologues. Not that later reveals are necessarily planned for, but this show strikes a balance given its unique American TV precedent with a "season per book" approach.

I have it preordered with GB discount for $52.24, which is still too high for me, but I love the pre order price guarantee, so if it drops, awesome! If not, I can cancel and wait for price drop...ah the beauty of amazon.

I hope Arya's actress, Maisie Williams, does commentary on one of the episodes. She is very entertaining.

I visited my local B&N and saw a display for Game of Thrones. The series comes out in four months though they're giving away your choice or DVD (thumbsdown) or a BD (thumbsup) with purchase of any HBO set.

Well, nobody stopped me... So I decided it was high time I got into 'The Wire' and get my GoT sampler disc.

I'm afraid I'm not currently listening through an HD surround setup, so I can't properly evaluate the mix (Update: listening to the DTS track now on my system - it's killer ), but it certainly looks fantastic with amazing detail. I never doubted it would, being shot digitally and all - but it still wowed me. The HD broadcast was already pretty good - but the BD transfer blows it away. This pretty much makes the March wait all the more excruciating.

Also, I must add that it's quite a different experience going back to watch this first episode after a few months have past. When the show first started, I was watching as a book reader, impatient and excited to see the entire adaptation - which made everything breeze by so fast. Watching "Winter is Coming" on its own, without itching to see what comes in the next episodes has allowed me to soak in all the subtleties found within the single hour. Each episode really is like a major motion picture production (similar to how I felt about Band of Brothers years back). Such an exquisite and breathtaking show.

I just realized if they made a little scale-model of the Iron Throne I would TOTALLY buy it to sit on my desk.

Or a life sized one made of foam to sit in my theater room. "BEND THE KNEE, KIDS!"

I read HBO.com is offering the set with a featurette on the design of the series. And I imagine there will be other retailer exclusives from Target, Best Buy, etc. like they did for the Pacific.

Kinda sucks they're won't be a definitive set.

From George RR Martin's perspective, this will be excellent news simply because there will be a massive boxset at the end of the series for an Ultimate Edition
