***ZOMBIE FLESH-EATERS UPDATE***

The Zombie Flesh-Eaters DVD and Blu-ray have been put back a week to the 3rd December for final checks.

The Blu-ray will include seamlessly branched options to play the film three ways:

1. ‘Zombie Flesh-Eaters’: with the English opening and closing titles and the on screen title ‘Zombie Flesh-Eaters’ as it was originally seen in UK cinemas
2. ‘Zombie’: with the English opening and closing titles and the on screen title ‘Zombie’ as it was originally seen in US cinemas
3. ‘Zombi 2’ with Italian opening and closing titles with the on screen title ‘Zombi 2’ as it was originally seen in Italian cinemas

The DVD will not have this function as by doing so would have comprised the SD feature encode.

Finally, both sets are 2 disc sets (2 Blu-rays / 2 DVDs) the special features are as follows (all extras in HD with uncompressed audio on the Blu-rays):

- A brand new high definition restoration of the original negative
- Optional English SDH subtitles
- Audio commentary with screenwriter Elisa Briganti, moderated by Calum Waddell
- Audio commentary with Fulci biographer Stephen Thrower and horror expert Alan Jones
- UK exclusive introduction to the film from Ian McCulloch
- “ALIENS, CANNIBALS AND ZOMBIES: A TRILOGY OF ITALIAN TERROR” – Actor Ian McCulloch remembers his three classics of Latin horror lunacy - ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS, CONTAMINATION and ZOMBI HOLOCAUST
- “FROM ROMERO TO ROME: THE RISE AND FALL OF THE ITALIAN ZOMBIE FILM” – Veteran Fulci screenwriters Dardano Sacchetti (THE BEYOND) and Antonio Tentori (CAT IN THE BRAIN), celebrated UK critic Kim Newman and filmmakers Luigi Cozzi (CONTAMINATION), Ruggero Deodato (CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST), Russ Streiner (NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD) plus many more share memories of the genesis of corpse-crunching cinema - from Romero's early templates to the gory glory days of Fulci and his many successors.
- “THE MEAT MUNCHING MOVIES OF GINO DE ROSSI” – The special effects magician behind many Italian splatter classics talks about his most famous gore-drenched greats - and shows props from many plasma-packed masterworks - including ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS, CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD, THE HOUSE BY THE CEMETERY, CANNIBAL FEROX, BURIAL GROUND and PIRANHA II.
- “ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS - FROM SCRIPT TO SCREEN” – Dardano Sacchetti shows key pages from his original ISLAND OF THE LIVING DEAD screenplay.
- Trailers and TV spots
- Collector’s booklet featuring brand new writing on the film by Fulci biographer Stephen Thrower, a new interview with star Olga Karlatos by Calum Waddell, a history of Zombie Flesh Eaters and the BBFC by Craig Lapper, one of the board’s senior examiners, and extracts of the original ‘Nightmare Island’ 1978 script including unfilmed, alternate, and more gory sequences as well as a Lucio Fulci CV compiled by Jay Slater.

Steeelbook includes Limited Edition Artworks by Graham Humphreys
Limited Edition Slipbox includes artwork by Graham Humphreys and 3 alternate artwork panels

I saw it on Cult Labs, but it was on the thread for ZFE rather than as an announcement.

I just pre-ordered the steelbook from amazon.co.uk (along with picking up Suspiria Blu-Ray for $16 and change as well). I actually like the steelbook look and it'll look nice beside my Demons double feature steel. I do wish they wouldn't be charging for the slipbox for their releases now but oh well.

You've read the reviews on the Suspiria release before you ordered it right?!?!

yep, I did. I just can't stand watching my DVD any more and I'll just turn down the contrast on my Panny projector to compensate for the blown out colors. I'm on an Argento kick so I still need Four Flies on Grey Velvet. Wish it weren't so damn expensive.

Delays are fine, it means they're being careful quality wise. I'm sure this will be a huge seller for them, internationally.

And those extras with the choice of opening/closing credits along with a new transfer = pretty darn close to definitive release there!

Good to hear...would hate to hear someone importing it not knowing the "issues".

I have a question. The standard release (not steelbook, not slipbox) will not have reversible covers?

We know which covers will be on the slipbox version. Don't know what's on the reverse of the standard blu-ray yet. I think it will be the UK "hand" artwork.

Thanks, although I'd like the slipbox to match the rest of my Arrow releases, I'll be deciding between the standard and the digibook.

There is no Digibook release, so your choice is made.

I meant steelbook, but I just realized this isn't region free...

Pretty upset, since I don't have a region free player.

Now to decide whether I should pick this up and invest in a region free player...

I am order this and I will be getting a region free Blu-ray (just not sure when). Since this will be my first Blu-ray that is region B I am thinking about watching it on my laptop when I first get it. I think you can change your laptop up to 4 times when changing it to play a different region. This way I can play the Blu-ray when I first get it. I would not play it again until I got my region free Blu-ray player. This might be the only time I would ever do this with my laptop or any of my laptops.

You can get trial versions of a couple of software that allow playback of region locked discs on your laptop. So when you get the disc temporary region free is just a google search away.
