Hercules rushes itself through a story of self-discovery, sacrifice and heroism, but remains ever enjoyable and superbly resonant.

09. THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG (2009) – 8.4
Bringing out the best of Disney story elements, it blends modern values with a mesmerizing fairytale and compelling characters.

08. POCAHONTAS (1995) – 8.6
Pocahontas is an artful, alluring and darkly tragic take on comtemporary American legend, featuring eye-popping artwork all around.

07. THE MANY ADVENTURES OF WINNIE THE POOH (1977) – 8.6
Each childhood is recounted in this fantastical compilation of intriguing, fittingly slow-paced shorts.

06. THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE (2000) – 8.7
No matter how many times you watch it, Groove's enthusiasm, fine voice work and incredible comedic timing will always draw you in.

05. TARZAN (1999) – 8.9
Rarely has Disney ever produced a tale of such perfected emotional depth and masterful storytelling.

04. THE LION KING (1994) – 8.9
The Lion King is a hugely sized epic tale of duty and heroism combined with cultural artisticness and a lively setting.

03. ALADDIN (1992) – 9.2
Aladdin is refined in it's character work, precise in it's art direction and intricately built around an unprecedentedly good story.

02. THE LITTLE MERMAID (1989) – 9.5
An amazing mixture of fairytale elements, savvy storytelling, a memorable band of characters, unbelievable music and good settings.

01. FANTASIA (1940) – 9.6
Who could deny Fantasia the right of Disney's best title, seeing as it plays out like a magical moving painting like never seen before?
Nice! Disney will always be the supiror movie making company for me

01. The Lion King
So we both have Tarzan & Lion King in our top ten! I see you tend more towards the Walt-himself-classics. Let me give you a rundown on what I think of those titles;

[Show spoiler]14. PETER PAN (1954) – 8.0
A boyish adventure for the inner child of every age, Peter Pan resonates and dazzles as the cherished piece of magic it is.

Sorry, have never seen 101 Dalmatians, can't rate it!

16. PINOCCHIO (1940) – 7.8
Pinocchio is a craft of long-forgotten artistry, but it tends to convolute its own intense atmosphere with too many twists.

22. SLEEPING BEAUTY (1959) – 7.5
Sleeping Beauty is chokful of otherworldly artistry and delivers memorable characters, alas in a stoic and sparsely heartfelt setting.

13. SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS (1937) – 8.0
There's no denying that Snow White is a relic from a bygone age, but nevertheless it's whimsy and heart is still prevalent.

12. BAMBI (1942) – 8.1
Hauntingly tragic, colorfully cute and impressively adventurous at the same time, Bambi will never disappoint.

25. JUNGLE BOOK (1967) – 7.2
Jungle Book thrives on fun characters, a vibrant atmosphere and a well-told story, while also missing a lot of opportunities.

15. BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (1992) – 8.0
Complimenting rushed animation with a stellar soundtrack and an amazing supporting cast, it truly shines as a Disney jewel.

We're doing Top 10s, huh? Here's my personal list:

1. Aladdin
2. Beauty and the Beast
3. Pocahontas
4. Tangled
5. The Lion King
6. The Little Mermaid
7. Mulan
8. The Princess and the Frog
9. Hercules
10. Tarzan

In case it isn't obvious, I was born in the late '80s (1987, to be exact), so my list is definitely skewed to the Renaissance. Haven't seen Hunchback, but I have a feeling it would make the list (I tend to like the Menken Disney films). Also, it's been a couple of years since I saw Mermaid, so it's possible it should be higher... I seen each of my top five in the past year, so those may be skewing a little.

Honorable mention to Peter Pan, The Rescuers, and Lady and the Tramp.

I havent seen RDU though. Should be a fun watch.
same to the bolded bit
though I was also brought up on Robin Hood and loved TRDU so I'd add those to the list (along with the more recent Tangled and TPATF which in all honesty are a close cry back to the 90's gold)

I mostly grew up with the 90s movies, we didn't have any VHS from the other movies except for 101 Dalmatians, which was in Arabic. I love TPATF, but I don't like Tangled. I mean it was good, but the horse ruined it for me, movie was too childish. Also Rapunzel's Character design always bothered me because she doesn't look new :/

She looks like the mother from Treasure Planet ALOT! Also Ariel.

That's what put you off about Tangled? I thought that horse was the funniest thing in a Disney movie like EVER.
I just didn't like that it didn't really feel like a "Disney" movie (too goofy, too carefully designed to appeal to the masses) but otherwise I still think it's a stellar achievement on par with the Renaissance for Disney; the character designs are wonderful and Mother Gothel is an interesting and morally conflicting villain.

I gotta say though I prefer PatF which IMO is the better film - more artistic, more likeable characters, WAY better songs and soundtrack, better setting, in the end a better villain and unfortunately a better plot; both PatF and Tangled where road movies but PatF did a better job at it, featuring realistic character arcs instead of cutesey conversions.

See al the people I know said the same thing to me about the horse... When it comes to a movie I don't want the horse to have a special subplot.. I want to be as realistic as possible. The fight to get the satchel, the time it found the passage way the went through, how it brought the rescue team for flynn, and also what kind of kingdom has a horse as their chief police officer? WTH is going with the movie?

Princess and the frog had a really good plot and had a deep meaning. Also, The villain was amazing! Truly what disney villains used to be.

I agree. Tangled, IMO, was one of the best Disney movies to come out in years. The music was great, the visuals (especially with the lights) were stunning. I also liked the simple "twist" they put on the standard Disney Princess. For the first time in a while, the prince wanted her, but she just wanted to find herself. Getting the prince was simply a bonus.

Agreed so much! Dr. Facilier is my favorite movie villain of all time. He's just so awesome. He's got a sexy voice, a great song, he's slick and intelligent, has hidden depths/motivations.. I could go on and on about this guy. The animation work, his design and Keith David's voice would make a winning combination in literally every imaginable plot.

Well, it's a good thing Disney changes it up all the time, since we all like different things. I'm just the opposite. I was bored to tears with TPATF and I couldn't stand the shoddy music. Whereas I absolutely loved Tangled and every single thing about, it including Maximus. But I'm glad we all have some Disney that we do like. The world would be pretty underwhelming if we were all the same.

Rapunzel's mouth is what bothers me most. Looks stiff and odd.
But the movie has a charm and re-watchablility about it despite the few annoyances.
Still sits behind TPATF to me though mind

While the music in Tangled is not horrible it is very poor for Disney's standards and most certainly for Alan Menken's standards. I am absolutely no fan of Randy Newman (I hate most of his songs) but his soundtrack for PatF is way better than Menken (who did Mermaid, Pocahontas and Aladdin to name a few) for Tangled, unfortunately.

It's good to know there's enough people that prefer PatF! I'm on tumblr a lot and that website has basically turned into a Tangled fansite. No one talks about PatF anymore and that's sad. PatF didn't appeal to the masses like Tangled but it was a lot better IMO (again I don't think Tangled is bad, I think it's exceptionally good, I just think PatF is better)

now you come to mention it, it IS quite refreshing to see the prince as bonus to two independant leading ladies (Tangled/TPATF)

But Belle, Nala, Mulan and Jasmine could also be considered as getting the prince as a bonus

Easily the weakest link in that film. But we've been over that, and I don't need to belabor it.

I loved the music in Tangled. That said, I did find some of the songs and musical pieces from Princess and the Frog enjoyable and catchy. Both soundtracks clearly catered to their movie's setting and time period, but for me, I thought the folksy style of Tangled felt a little more flexible and fresh than the '20s jazz of Princess and the Frog.

The big problem I have with the songs in Tangled is that the lyrics felt weak. Slater's no Ashman, but he's pretty darn good, and I expected a bit more than some of the seemingly lacking-in-effort lines that we got (e.g., "...and I'll keep wond'rin', and wond'rin', and wond'rin', and wond'rin' when will my life begin"). But that doesn't necessarily take away from how I feel about strictly the music.

Furthermore, Menken said that Disney has trouble committing movies to becoming full-blown musicals, despite the success of movies like Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King. So while the songs in Tangled were enjoyable, the fact that there were so few didn't help to integrate music into the movie as well as was done for Princess and the Frog. They didn't even keep the opening number's first reprise, which I think would've been great in the final movie.
