9/27 - The Bride

Oh what a Beautiful Bride she is! The beautiful Bride Jennifer Beals & the handsome Sting as Baron Von Frankenstein & Clancy Brown as Viktor with David Rappaport as Rinaldo were a great cast. This is a beautifully made movie with great atmosphere, elaborate sets/costumes & exquisite photography, beautiful music & filmed on location in a castle and countryside of Europe. Also enjoyed the sets within the castle & laboratory with the stormy/lightning atmosphere, such a great setting. Not scary, but extremely classy, gothic & beautiful countryside, all prerequisites for being my 'cup of tea'! Thought they could have made a sequel if....you'll have to watch it. Highly Recommended

Would love to see a beautiful blu-ray of The Bride!!!

Had such high hopes for this one. Had them dashed. Clancy Brown deserved an Oscar nod though.

Joy Ride -

This was the first time in a while since I've watched this one, and I still really enjoy it. It's not really scary, but there are plenty of scenes that are set up well and had me, even to this day, biting my nails in anticipation. Paul Walker and Steve Zahn are both good in their roles, but the movie is definitely helped along by the voice of Ted Levine. Who knew that just a voice could sound so menacing and dangerous?

This was the version I saw as a kid... I bought this after getting the Italian Kino cut because I wanted both versions.. particularly the extra Boris Karloff narrative... it's a terrific movie either way.. both editions...

dripping with trademark Mario Bava atmosphere and genuinely creepy in many parts...

CELLAR DWELLER

okay, this really isn't a truly good movie but it's a guilty pleasure for sure... a fun cast, a silly but enjoyable monster, some gory effects... it's a charming B grade horror flick---

Guh... September has been so dull without horror movies. I feel like an addict about to burst. I need my fix already! Three more days... Just three.

I feel the same. lately ive tried to watch just bonus features when it comes to horror and save the movies until October. doing this I realize how rarely I look at bonus features.

Just rewatched Mandy Lane. I still really enjoy the ending and the shotgun fellatio kill but it really plays out like the cheapest, thrown together, slasher boom cashins without all the fun – intended or otherwise.

1-Sinister: We’ve all seen it, if you have not, drop everything, run to Best Buy, and buy this movie. Great acting, great story, great film. 5/5

2-Ouija: IMDB takes a big dump on this movie, but I found it entertaining and spooky. All and all it is a pretty solid teenage horror flick. 3.25/5

3-Patrick (remake): This one was on Showtime so we decided to give it a look. Decent, leaning towards weak. You may like it if you are a fan of Tywin Lannister, he plays the doctor. 2/5

It took my wife 3 attempts to make it the whole way through, but Saturday night we finally watched (and finished) It Follows together. My wife is a total "Normy" and is easily terrified. Since this was pretty artfully made I thought she'd be okay getting through it. Every attempt we'd get about 20 minutes in and she'd say she needed a break. Don't know what it was in particular about It Follows, but it really unnerved her. Either way, great flick, amazing atmosphere, soundtrack and consistent sense of dread.

Then on Sunday as I cleaned out our closet I put on The Conjuring since it's been over a year since watching it last. Overall, this is a solid haunted house movie. Not as good as Insidious, but still better than most. A few cheap jump scares, but mostly solid, original, spooky images and great set design. Some of the stuff the Warrens say and do is kind of cringe worthy, though. A great movie to have on while doing chores.

Just watched The Possession. This is for fans of the exorcism genre only, not those like me who is still looking to be converted. The production and acting quality is strong but other than a bit of Jewish Mysticism here and there this is the same old boring exorcism movie where a cute little girl gets to swear at adults trying to keep straight faces as people do really stupid stuff for the sake of a scare.

Couldnt wait any longer.... so heeeere we go

9/26 - Friday the 13th (2009)

Better than i remembered but still not very good. This movie still annoys me that it tries to be a remake but feels more like a sequel. Aside from the sleeping bag fire scene, the kills are boring, characters annoying and overall just bland. Jason was a beast though for whatever thats worth

9/27 - A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)

This is definitely a remake but they almost went too far trying to explain the backstory and corny at times. the whole dreaming while awake seems like a cop out to be able to do whatever they want at anytime. i assume that is what happened during the swim practice scene? Overall, enjoyed this slightly more than the friday the 13 remake but just slightly.

9/27 - Area 51

Really thought i was going to like this but should have listened to basically every negative review of the movie. it was paranormal activity without the scares. the movie literally had none of the tension the PA movies have becuase there is no threat of something "scary" happening until they actually get to Area 51. so everything beforehand is pretty pointless and there is no need for it to be a handheld cam movie. then once they finally get to area 51, its just so ridiculous nothing is remotely scare thereafter and the ending makes no sense at all... dont waste your time with this one...

9/26 - The Battery - First time watching. Very very good. A zombie film without that many zombie, but more of 2 man road trip movie meets a zombie movie. Unique and compelling.

9/27 - Eaten Alive (2 1/2) - First time watching. Very very odd film. The whole thing is sort of a sleazy slice of life. I can say I have never seen anything really like it. There is very little lead up, and almost no explanation of why the killer is killing. And if you want to understand anything that the killer says, turn on the subtitles. Hooper fans should check it out. Oh, I almost forgot, I think this is Robert Englund's feature film debut. Anyone that has seen that Kill Bill movies will see the homage to this film by Tarantino.

Nice. Both of those are great! I would also recommend The Guest to anyone who has yet to see and liked either You're Next or Housebound.

I got three of them in this weekend, as I am ramping up for Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando on 10/9!!! Since two of these films will be represented as haunted houses at the event, I started with those:

1. An American Werewolf in London -
This was just such an entertaining film, with that tongue-in-cheek humor, cheesy effects, and just a great cast. Can't wait to tour the house!

2. Freddy vs. Jason -
Yeah, 5 skulls. As a child I dreamt of this mash-up all the time, and when it finally occurred, I was very pleased. Sure, the acting was less than stellar, the effects were sub-par by today's standards...but what a film. Watching these two hash it out like some gory Tom & Jerry is well worth the price of admission.

3. Ghost Ship -
Another Dark Castle release, this was no House on Haunted Hill IMO, but it had a decent story and some interesting gore (the opening scene is worth it alone). Plus a fairly good cast makes this a decent watch if you're int he mood for a ghost story.

1. Maniac (1980) (Blu Ray)
2. The Wind (1986) (DVD) 1/2
3. The Legacy (1978) (Blu Ray)
4. City of the Living Dead (1980) (Blu Ray) 1/2
5. Friday the 13th (1980) (Blu Ray) 1/2
6. Deranged (1974) (Blu Ray)
7. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) (Blu Ray)
8. The Island of Dr. Moreau (1977) (Blu Ray)
9. Devil Dog: Hound of Hell (1978) (Blu Ray)
10. Ghost Town (1988) (Blu Ray)
11. Panic Beats (1982) (DVD)
12. Witchery (1988) (Blu Ray)
13. Dog Soldiers (2002) (Blu Ray)
14. Nightmare Castle (1965) (Blu Ray)

Ghost Town was a melding of western and horror. I found the acting and the story to be very mediocre. Nothing really stood out to me in this one.

Panic Beats is a tale of revenge from beyond the grave. Spaniard Paul Naschy's ancestor rises from the tomb to exact revenge upon those who wronged him. Some good killings in this one. The highlight for me was
[Show spoiler]the axe to stomach scene where the prostitutes guts come spilling out
This one is in Spanish with English subtitles. A good watch IMO.

Witchery was horrible IMO. The plot was dumb, the dialogue and acting was less than mediocre and the effects were very poor. I couldn't wait for this to be over with. With that being said I am skipping Ghost House, the other feature on this disc, altogether. Not recommended!

Dog Soldiers is a stand-out Werewolf film IMO. Great acting, great effects and a very good story will keep you riveted to the screen. All involved put their heart and soul into this one and it shows. Highly recommended!

Nightmare Castle is an Italian gothic horror starring horror icon Barbara Steele. The plot was well thought out and the acting was well above par. Lots of atmosphere in this one and some great cinematography. Recommend all the way!

Was Insidious really that good? I loved The Conjuring. I hate films that claim to be horror and are actually suspense, and Insidious looked like one of those cop out films. However, it is a featured house at Halloween Horror Nights this year, so I thought about checking it out.

Is it a slasher, ghost story, etc?
