My prediction when it comes to Disney and 4K catalog is that we'll probably get most, if not all, of the 'premium' (Signature) line, new release 3D animations and not much else. I know I'm certainly not picking the entire catalog up yet again on another format. The 'premium' titles, as far as I'm aware anyway, were the only ones given the proper 4K rescans / remasters.
I fully agree. I only expect the Signature Collection and the CGI films from 2010-2016 to be rereleased on 4K. They might do Dumbo, Alice in Wonderland, Mary Poppins and Who Framed Roger Rabbit as well and maybe Mulan and The Hunchback of Notre Dame when their remakes hit theaters (and that's stretching it since both films got a cheap Blu-ray release with their cheapquels tacked on).

When can we pre order and do the pickup option instead of shipping?
That option isn't available until release day. I wouldn't recommend waiting for that though since Target Exclusives sell out rather fast.

4k scans of the original negatives of all the hand-drawn pre-CAPS titles, color timing and restoration finished at 2K.

Correct. They were very careful to preserve the entire library. Even Song of the South has a 4K scan...it just won't see a public release.

iTunes has a separate listing for this one rather than update the old one

I'm afraid of trying to watch The Sword in the Stone Blu-Ray on my Bravia 4K. The actual negative is digitally archived at 4K, all the crap they did to it for the HD release was done for the 2k Master...one can only hope when it comes to 4K release it's a completely new master.

I seriously doubt The Sword in the Stone is gonna hit 4K UHD. It’s not one of their premium titles. I’d be shocked if it came out.

Even the 1080p TV rip is better than the blu-ray.

Not any time soon, Matt, that's for sure.

However, I'm going to bet a limb we get Fantasia in 4K for the 80th anniversary (and Fantasia/2000 for the 20th) in 2020. I have little hope the "soundbar" audio-friendly version is going to be revisited, but....I live in hope.

Do you think most of Disney's classic animated features already look and sound perfectly fine on Blu-Ray, and don't need 4K upgrades?

No, I've kvetched about film grain for years. Cell dust-busting and fixing production errors -- really don't have too much of a problem with that. The philosophy of trying to make the films match the animation cells themselves....that's complicated.

Speaking of that, I STILL don't understand how the colors and detail on the Cinderella DVD and Blu-Ray were botched so much. I hope a 4K release will fix it all.

Not without a new master. Disney Home Video/Consumer Products Division hasn't done it yet for their 4k titles. One can only hope.

Many people have already emailed and messaged to Disney Consumer Relations over the years how poor the current restoration is. I've done it myself, and even provided comparison images.

Your Cinderella crusade is greater than my "uncut Black Cauldron" crusade, but in regards to the latter, I think I've figured something out...some of that deleted footage was never inked and painted, as in never finished, so to finish that version would require a chunk of change, for a movie the studio has never really supported in the first place. Bernstein scored the final cut, but that cut wasn't ultimately inked and painted for certain shots, so he was working to the pre-Katzenberg edit. I think we're stuck with what we got.

I came to accept that a while ago.

Sword in the Stone Is bad enough to be afraid of watching on a standard definition CRT. The DVD looks better then the Blu-Ray. More detail, which should never be the case.
