Why pay just under $150 for all four movies in Steelbooks?

Because I’m a goddamn idiot with a goddamn problem, that’s why.
I don’t have any of those outside of Fury Road so I’ll gladly get the SB set. I actually do like the covers too. It will certainly pop on the shelf.

I'm only getting The Road Warrior because I already have Mad Max from KL and of coarse Fury Road, which was previously released years ago. Thunderdome was awful, and nobody can even give it to me.

So will the NA release contain individual cases for each movie, or just the four discs in some kind of slipcase? I hate buying a series like this in some proprietary packaging and then a new movie gets added to it and just sits on the side in its own single case.

US release looks to be a single case with the four UHDs in it, nothing more. Probably stacked, even.

Well at least it looks like the color of Road Warrior has been addressed and Thunderdome looks pretty spiffy.
The original audio side suffers as per usual.

I feel that looking at the trailer, people will realise that thunderdome was a very pretty movie at times

Was Thunderdome really that bad? Would most people recommend against watching it?

I honestly believe the MM films get better with each outing. Is that the popular point of view? No. But I hope it at least conveys that BEYOND THUNDERDOME is far from “really that bad”.

It’s a disappointment after MM & MM2.

It’s a big tonal shift after the brutality of MM & MM2.

Not my favourite, but I’ll watch it every few years (for the production design and cinematography).

Thunderdome is a different kind of movie. It was conceived as one thing and then someone suggested: what if Max walks into this?
The key for me is that Byron Kennedy died during its pre-production and Miller seems to have lost some heart in it. He winds up only co-directing. I think if you know these things going in the movie plays better. Most come to it after the first two and are almost always disappointed.
Once I came back to it with a fresh approach as an adult I could better understand what it was getting after. I like things in it and ideas in it. The production values are first rate and the central Bartertown is a fuller realization of the future world suggested in the first two films.
I do wish we had gotten a more complete send off for the original Max than this but it’s a better film than you remember. Fury Road made me realize this all the more.

If the Pappagallo speech is unedited, I’ll be happy.

Very happy the colour grading is improved. The azure skies look much nicer.

So would you recommend treating it as a standalone film? Maybe watching it before the other two?

It works well as an ending for the trilogy.

Beyond Thunderdome has the best ending to any movie ever. I absolutely love the finale and the last few lines of dialogue combined with the imagery.

I love the whole movie, but the ending is just absolute perfection.
