For all the talk about PS3 fan noise, it's DEAD SILENT compared to my 360. Hell, I've left the thing on a couple times by accident (the PS3, not the 360).
it would have to be water cooled like alienware's aurora.

Talking Decided to go bluray

Hi All,

Well, I decided to take the plunge and buy an entire new home entertainment system. I have always been an Nintendo and XBOX owner, never purchased a Playstation in my life. This time, I decided the PS3 seemed like the logical way to go, especially since I want bluray.

I was a little concerned to start with, many reviews on the net spoke of the PS3 lacking certain things in regards to playback (24Hz, DVD Upconversion, etc.) How happy was I when I discovered Sony has implemented all this with their firmware updates!! It's great, I'm even happier about my decision. I can't wait for the whole system to arrive (5 days to go )

Any absolutely incredible bluray movies anyone know of? Just to show it off mates lol!

Have a great one!

Default firmware updates

can anyone tell me who has recently purchased the 60gb model, which software version came with it? is it 1.82?

The reason I am asking is that I want to have the latest software when I purchase my ps3 now, and as I only have dial up internet service and to download the updated firmware would probably take forever and I havent heard back from sony if they can send out a firmware update disc like they do with the stand alone players.

Thanks in advance

yeah man, I just got the 60gb today and it came with version 1.51

I also only have dial=up so I cannot download it, but I am going to a friends house who has cable internet, downloading it there, burning to a disc, and then uploading it onto my PS3.

that is really the only way for people like us to do it. The file is 110 MB so there is no way you are downloading that on dial-up.

good luck man

Instead of burning to disc you can also use a USB Flash Memory key.

I currently have a Samsung BDP-1000 first gen.

I am planning on getting another BR player after Thanksgiving and giving this one to my dad. Im torn between a 3rd -4th gen player or the ps3 80gig. I wont be playing too many games if I had a ps3, but I guess itd give me the option.

Im more curious of how the PQ on the PS3 compares to say the second gen Samsung with the HQV processor. I assume the PS3 is highly upgradable via firmware since its a pretty powerful machine.

Any input would be nice, thanks.

You can use Ipod, USB Memory Stick or a memory card that you would use with a camera. Pretty much anything that stores files.

Got my PS3 today, loving it. Upconverts better than my BD-P1000.

Love the wireless internet and the browsings pretty cool too.

Couple of questions:

*) You guys using the super white, I see most over at AVS are

*) Anyone have any input on using the frame and block reduction on upconverting?

*) RGB vs ycrcb? I have it on auto right now

I have a sony 720p rplcd and am sending it 1080i from the ps3.

My projector support Super-White but I'm not using it. I prefer the way it looks without the Super-White on.

ALl those things are great.

But I rarely here any1 talk about some of its greatest features.

Which is its photo display. Imagine on Christmas putting together a slide show while playing your favorite Christmas tunes as the family athers around the room for laugh and stories.

Such a beautiful machine the PS3 is.

I put togther a slide show from my last outing, and had all my dog pictures in portrait mode while playing "who let the dogs out" the kids love it.

This machine is as close as you can get to a time portal into another dimension.

Not too mention watchin all your downloaded movie with ease, no delays on your PS3 through stream.

So if youre a porn fanatic, you have easy access on your huge Tv set.

Default Wireless hookup help?

I jumped on the Amazon deal last week and just got my PS3 delivered. I'm beyond thrilled with the game and movie quality, but I cannot seem to get the wireless networking to work. I know I'm doing something wrong, but saw no step-by-step instructions on how to do this at the PS3 website or here. Can someone give me a hand with this?

Is yours network protected?

I had to select my network when it found it, then select the encryption(WEP), then enter the wep key and it was fine.

It'd help to know how far you've got with it. This may help you as well.

Well, I got my PS3 and all I can say is that the thing is loud

At least, louder than my Panasonic. I even tried moving it on top of my equipment rack, and putting it vertical, but it did nothing. Oh well, I hate feeling regret but the Panasonic is sold.

Would you notice it while sitting at your sweet spot? 'cuz if you do, then you might wanna return it and get a quieter one - if you can find one. Strange how some people can hear it and some can't.

Yeah. Its fine initially, but after a few minutes it ramps up. But I have found a solution. I'm keeping my BD10 Oh, this is going to be an expensive month, but when your into Blu-ray, you're in all the way.
