Which is precisely what Warner/Discovery is doing with some of their titles. Things cycle off all the time. Granted it would be a big change for Disney+, it is not necessarily out of the question.

What are y’all going to do if you’re not a member of the DMC? eBay?
While I bought some DMC BDs (received 3 only yesterday), I won't support the Mouse going DMC with 4K releases, i.e. the Mouse can f off then.

That's ridonkulously generous of you. I won't say yes just yet, in case it does appear anywhere else, but if I do accept I'll give you a voucher good for a whole month of not treating you like a complete tosspot if I disagree with anything you say.

I too have one enormously generous american friend. He's the one I count on for american purchases. I buy them not worrying about shipping until months have passed and I've got a bunch and I only have to pay once for shipping. I have to wait months, but patience rewards me in this case.

Deal! Though being considered a complete tosspot is better than being called a hippie.

Is this Disney Club thing worth it? What's the gotcha? I'm having flashbacks of the Columbia record club from the 80s.

Yes! Cinderella is my favorite movie of all time, as my name might suggest! I'll happily own for this masterpiece once again!

Wait to see if it truly is a DMC locked title first and not a wide release.

It's a little like Columbia House, but less of a gotcha if you remember to respond to the monthly title and it has fewer commitments to get to VIP status.

Someone needs to edit the first post… this is very unlikely to be a true DMC exclusive.

Wasn't "The Black Hole" Blu a DMC exclusive?

It was. But The Black Hole isn't on the same level as Cinderella.

Are you referring to HBO Max because most of the content they've been removing is because it wasn't making them enough money to be worth keeping on?

TLM was one of the first 4k HDRs done back in 2016, since they had the raw scan files back when making the 2012 SDR master.
I really hope it's native 4K, but I have my doubts. I remember reading about how Disney restored their classics, making them look like digital CAPS productions. They would painstakingly cut out the characters from their backgrounds and clean the two separately. Then they would freeze-frame the backgrounds before adding the characters back on top. That's why these films appear so stable, beyond what image stabilization software can accomplish. For Alice in Wonderland (1951), they even recreated the ripple effects digitally. The original effects were achieved through the use of expensive custom-made glass. Some say these methods are very revisionist.

Therefore, these are not typical restorations but more like expensive VFX work that spans the length of each film. Disney had to bite the bullet and pay for them in the early 2000s, because their original negatives were getting pretty old. So now that everything is restored, are they willing to do it all over again? They've upscaled 2K masters before and it works well because it's animation.

Unless, of course, they ditch this process and opt for more conventional restorations from fresh 4K scans, which would result in much more filmlike presentations.

You're kind of spot-on, DigitalDeluge24. Disney pretty much wants their WDAS films to look like we're seeing the cels on the screen. Which is both good and bad.

there not going to be upscaled. stop with the nonsense.

there could very well be other "digital" issues after the fact. But that will remain to be seen.

Interesting. I thought they'd use the Signature Collection's disc, but it seems that they will use the Diamond Edition's disc.

The OCN's were scanned in 4K. All the tinkering people refer to was done for the 2K masters, the 4K scans of the SE negatives are unmolested, warts and all (like the dust swarms in Pinocchio, or inking and registration errors in Bambi, they're part of the original photography). I'm not convinced the modern Mouse House would abandon their attempts to make the films appear modern, so I'd hold such expectations to little more than a "What if?", and even that might be hoping for too much.
