2 Final Destinations @ $14.99 each = 29.98 + 10.97 shipping + 6.04 import = $46.99 vs 2 Final Destinations @ $25.99 each = 51.98 x 13% HST = $58.74 Assuming you get the $6 back, it's an $18 difference. |

Except that Amazon.com HASN'T yet price matched #5 and they want $59.95 for it.
And I want to make sure they have their lenticular slip covers. Much easier to do with a local vendor than an international one if I had to send it back... ![]() |

Amazon also is sold out of it right now, and the $60 copies are from 3rd party vendors. =P I've said it once, I'll say it 10000 times. If slipcovers are worth over $10 to some of you, more power to you. =P

Where I will reference a US price is when I want to decide if an offer is truly a great price or if there is probably room for it to come down some more. Since spring of 2009, exchange rates have been at or near par. So when I know that a given movie/book/stereo has a regular price in the USA, I wouldn't consider it a 'deal' to pay 20%, 30%, or 50% more in Canada. From experience I've noticed that a lot of the biggest sales or clearances will result in a lot of media and electronics dropping to the US price. It's kind of like a quick gauge to figure out if something is a bargain or not. Using a stereo for an example, consider a given model that's widely available in the USA for $300, but in Canada it's normally $450. I wouldn't bite on it during a 15% off sale ($382) because I'll know that's still far off the target of around $300 CDN. You might have to wait and overlap both a price drop and a percent-off sale, but at some point that stereo should be available close to $300. There's a similar pattern with media such as movies. Ya, I would never pay extra for a slipcover... I'm not that much of a diehard. But if it is supposed to come with one, I want it to come with one... so at $24.99 for both movies I'll happily pay that. If they come with their lenticular slip covers. Final 4 did, Final 5 didn't so I sent it back and they're replacing it... will get it on Monday and see what it comes with the second time.

Was looking for a filler item to get free shipping for a 2 pack Ekobrew, but couldn't find anything. Ended up buying Red Cliff (Extended) for $14.83. I had never even heard of this so a total blind buy but reviews and price both seem solid.

Pre-ordered Dark Knight Rises which shipped out early, but Finding Nemo which I pre-ordered back in June is still sitting there. And it doesn't seem like shipping is imminent either, since the Cancel order button is still active.
On the topic of Finding Nemo, for the number of years that it's been one of the most anticipated blu-ray titles, the actual release day feels a bit anticlimactic. Doesn't seem to be as big a splash as Lion King and BatB. Along with that, I'm not seeing the same up-to-the-last-minute price cutting either. I think the prevailing price is $34.99 with possible $5 coupon (?) |

Been starting to receive some Amazon shipments from BC. Good, right?
Except they all seem to be getting messed up in transit somehow. Every West coast order has some weird UPS delay or issue. I've had packages 'left at hub' 5 days in a row (how does that happen once, let alone 5 times?), nobody home (untrue, and not an issue for safe drop), and 'external factors' which again they can't explain. One was crushed, and of course I watched the driver quietly leave it on the step, obviously not wanting to be take back a crushed box. I got one quick and problem free shipment, and sure enough, it was from Ontario. Most recently UPS has one package delayed due to 'natural disaster'. Was there actually a natural disaster between Vancouver and Calgary this week? A rock slide or something? Sorry if there was, but coming from UPS I'm a bit skeptical. Overall it seems like any advantages of a new Amazon West coast distribution center are being completely sabotaged by a less competent UPS chain across the region. |
