Taken from https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2016/1...ntendo-switch/

Nvidia provide the graphics for the Switch.

The first thing to know about the new Nintendo Switch home gaming system: it’s really fun to play. With great graphics, loads of game titles and incredible performance, the Nintendo Switch will provide people with many hours of engaging and interactive gaming entertainment.
But creating a device so fun required some serious engineering. The development encompassed 500 man-years of effort across every facet of creating a new gaming platform: algorithms, computer architecture, system design, system software, APIs, game engines and peripherals. They all had to be rethought and redesigned for Nintendo to deliver the best experience for gamers, whether they’re in the living room or on the move.

A Console Architecture for the Living Room and Beyond

Nintendo Switch is powered by the performance of the custom Tegra processor. The high-efficiency scalable processor includes an NVIDIA GPU based on the same architecture as the world’s top-performing GeForce gaming graphics cards.
The Nintendo Switch’s gaming experience is also supported by fully custom software, including a revamped physics engine, new libraries, advanced game tools and libraries. NVIDIA additionally created new gaming APIs to fully harness this performance. The newest API, NVN, was built specifically to bring lightweight, fast gaming to the masses.
Gameplay is further enhanced by hardware-accelerated video playback and custom software for audio effects and rendering.
We’ve optimized the full suite of hardware and software for gaming and mobile use cases. This includes custom operating system integration with the GPU to increase both performance and efficiency.
NVIDIA gaming technology is integrated into all aspects of the new Nintendo Switch home gaming system, which promises to deliver a great experience to gamers.
The Nintendo Switch will be available in March 2017. More information is available at https://www.nintendo.com/switch.
Nintendo Switch is a trademark of Nintendo.

I dont game outside the house. Outside of my phone which is only short bursts of a few minutes, this isnt much of an issue for me personally. Although Pokemon Go has changed that somewhat and that is a killer on batterly life

anyways, do you guys really believe the support will be there? If it is less powerful, isn't that one of the big reasons why EA, etc. didnt support the wii u? Games wouldnt run well on the wii u. I know some said because of poor wii u sales, but if it had more games, it would have had more sales. I dont know. I have felt a little burned by the wii u as much as I liked it. really like the concept, could easily replace the 3ds which to me feels dated with graphics, etc.
EA (and others) did support the Wii U early on. That unfortunately didnt last long. Alot of devs are supporting the Switch now, so its no different. Lets wait and see how things are in a year after those launch window and holiday games that have already been in the pipeline are released

They are but not worldwide. This thing has a chance to be popular in Japan (handheld) AND the US (home console).

Yeah but the wording made it sound like the entire console market is failing. Maybe it's me lol.

So the hardware will be optimized so if you are playing handheld then it will use less power and when docked it'll ramp up to improve performance.

Good to see the Tegra confirmation should look great considering how good the shield games looked. Better than the Wii U anyway.

GPS, maybe but not likely 4G. That would unnecesarily add to the cost of production and would get even more complicated by needing to make partnerships with the major mobile carriers

Though some have said it's not even using Tegra so who knows.
it's using a custom Tegra chip as per Nvidia themselves: https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2016/1...ntendo-switch/

It was your wording. 'The failing console market' doesn't indicate you were talking Nintendo and Nintendo only. No big deal though. Whatever.

Thanks for not taking it the wrong way by the way. No offence intended.

Research on it a bit.

PS2 generation vs PS3 generation vs PS4 generation

Add together all console sales and all game sales and then compare them against each other. No, not of Playstation only, but every single console from those generations.

Oh and you have to remove the Wii audience from the PS3 generation of course.

You will then probably be in shock. Also take population growth into account. There is a video w/ Reggie from 2005, where they go into detail about exactly that and the situation hasn't changed.

Have you never asked yourself why there are so many last-gen ports this generation? That's in fact another problem. (AAA) Game development gets more and more expensive, but the audience isn't growing with that.

GPS could be a thing but I think mobile data is definitely not going to be in. Just tether it to your phone's 4G. Nintendo saves themselves and us a lot of hassle.

I had the 3G vita and what a pain in the ass that was. You need to register the sim card and top it up was just a waste of money when my phone already had all the data I needed.

I do not like that the second control stick is UNDER the A/B/X/Y buttons.

Thankfully, that is the only thing I don't like about it.

The only reason to buy this for me would be some great first party titles since the PS4 will deliver much better graphics in all other games.

thats the best thing they did as opposed to sticking with that horrible design from the Wii U gamepad

It's caught my attention. I don't play a whole lotta games anymore, but if the price is right, I can see myself getting this.

Since it seems like they really want to appeal to the casual market with this, I feel the price point will be critical.
