Disney and Lucasfilm have released some retro posters that hearken back to 1977.

By the end of the movie Luke saves Rey and takes her in to become a jedi.
Or they're doing scenes together because Sith Luke is trying convert his niece/daughter to the dark side.

We don't know....

The latest issue of Empire J.J Abrams talks The lightsaber fights in TFA:

For Abrams the lightsaber battles in Episode 1 to 3 were “increasingly spectacular and stylised, almost like dance choreography”. So when he came to stage runaway stormtrooper Finn versus baddie Kylo Ren in a snowy forest, he went back to the source.

“When you look at Star Wars and Empire, they are very different lightsaber battles, but for me they felt more powerful because they were not quite as slick. I was hoping to go for something much more primitive, aggressive and rougher, a throwback to the kind of heart-stopping lightsaber fights I remembered being so enthralled by as a kid.”

Makes sense. They are just remaking that movie anyway.

Yup, obviously that one is fan created unlike the other "retro" posters, but you'd think the artist would at least try and get that right.

I wonder if some people are gonna feel odd when no Fox logo starts a SW movie, we've seen it a number of times now with Clone Wars theatrical picture and digital versions of the old Episodes, but for some fans it will be their first time seeing that and initially did feel wrong IMO.

Spoilers for the beginning of the film! A big one, too.

That sure doesn't look like a light saber to me.

Thank god for that! the only duel that seemed sort of natural was Dooku versus Anakin. The Darth Maul ones only looked cool because Ray Park is a martial artist but still he was dancing with obi wan and Qui Quan.

I actually preferred the more acrobatic lightsaber duels, thought they were more indicative of how people with unnatural abilities would fight each other with laser swords.

Ren and Finn aren't really trained classic Jedi though, so it makes sense their dual will be more basic. Also there is a biiiiiiiig gap between the OT's saber fights and the PT's over-the-top and silly acrobatics in the Obi/Anakin fight.

Ideally I would want something between the two.

Somehow I doubt the Force users in the new trilogy have the Force talents of Anakin Skywalker, Palpatine or Yoda so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I-III's lightsaber duels were excellent (minus a few unnecessary CGI flips) and I hope Luke takes on a lightsaber fighting style, which he lacked in the OT. As for Kylo Ren, I would have thought he would have found a style considering he's used to being a Dark Jedi/Sith/Inquisitor type. However, I'm not surprised the fight in TFA will be more like the OT as Finn hasn't been trained in the Jedi arts.
