Boy, if I could only sell all this car audio stuff I have. I have a sales flier circulating out here at the office, but everyone is worried about losing there job right now with the drilling stopped in the Gulf. I think I have a fair chance, but some of these guys are getting transferred to other places including over seas. It's starting to get a little rough out here. Had one guy want my JL audio subs, but he wound up having to buy his kid a new phone.

![]() Here is the easy solution looking at your picture. Dead center of your room is 4.75 feet. That should be where the center of the TV and Ent Stand is located. Assuming the Stand is 48" wide(4 feet) that leave 2'9" on either side of the stand to place your speakers. WE'LL talk sub later. OK, Your speakers should be on stands 24-30" high(racksandstands.com) and they should be 1 foot wide on either side of the TV, that leaves a distance of 1'9" from the side walls. That is perfect placement. Then for distance from the back wall, you want them to be about level with the front of the TV, so if you drew a line across the front the speakers and TV would all be on the same linear plain. Got me? Based on the fact that the Stand is about 12-18 inches deep, you have now cleared about 6-12" from the back wall. Perfect Again! (man Im good) ![]() The Center channel, ideally, should be on a center stand about 18-24 inches tall, in front of the TV, with a slight angle towards your listening position(but you don't have too). Sub.... I don't know the size dimensions of the sub, however you can place that anywere.....Right or left wall would be best in this case but you will have to test that. Perhaps put it behind your couch. ![]() OK, so if my math is correct you should be sitting about 9' away if your all the way back against the wall(?), speakers are 6 feet apart and your 9 feet back... just like Energy says, (the sound of golden light rushes throught the air) [oops sorry]... however you may need to sit further up if the sub is behind you, in that case, slightly toe-in the speakers. My speakers are 7 feet apart and I sit 7 feet back... I have a slight toe-in also. place the surrounds on the wall if you can or put them on stands , either behind if the sub is behind you too... or to the side if your all the back against the wall.... this is where wall mounted RC-Rs or CR10s will be a good fit if your all the way back against the wall. Lastly, get a dark drape you can put over the window, that will make watching in the day time more enjoyable. Class dismissed... hahahahahahaha J/K I hope that helps, let me know if you have any other questions. Last edited by callas01; 06-03-2010 at 02:25 PM. |

I was reading a few pages back and back on this thread this morning and came across a few posts that kind of related to this subject. If I absolutely need to I assume I could just plug the port and see how it sounds. Otherwise, I could just go ahead and move the darn tv and sit closer to the doorway at the end of the bed ![]() Edit: Oh, yea, and the center channel issue. When I bought that stand I was hoping to be able to put my center on that second shelf below the tv, but my receiver is so big I couldn't fit my BD player on top of it, so the center wound up on the floor. I tried putting it on the top of the stand directly in front of the tv, but it kind of covered some of the bottom of the screen and I didn't like that so I put it on the floor. I'll probably just build something to lift it up higher. Last edited by Miker107; 06-03-2010 at 02:50 PM. |

even if your slightly off mid-axis, just swivel the TV slightly dead on.... perhaps... Also, you could toe-in just one speaker.... |

The door is not really an issue so much, it's that bed that takes up the entire wall from the door frame all the way to the wall. It's up against that back wall. I'll make it all work somehow. ![]() Oh yea, and thanks for the link to racksandstands.com. I was going to ask about where i could get some decent stands. Should the speakers be slightly above or right at ear level? Last edited by Miker107; 06-03-2010 at 03:25 PM. |

I was thinking about the price difference as well, and the specs and reviews looked real good on the P162 quite frankly. They sell the P162 per speaker, so at one point I was even contemplating getting 3 P162's and using one as my center to have all 3 the same across the front. It would have been almost the same price has buying a pair of the RC-10's, but after all the reading I think the RC-10's will do the trick. |

We are having our town hall meeting this afternoon to find out what the Company is going to do with us. If I have a good Idea that I will have a job in the next 6 months, game on...
![]() I'm definitely going to have to figure something out for my seating arrangement, because if I do move the tv that also moves the audio to the left as well, but I'll figure something out. |

You wouldn't happen to know how high I should place them, at ear level or slightly above? I read in the reviews for the P162's that they sounded better placed slightly above ear level right around the port. I'd like to make sure I get the correct stand length. Sitting on the bed I believe my ear level from the floor is somewhere in the range of 33 to 36 inches. |

personally as you discovered, Deftech does lack some mid-range detail, I think their speakers are nice, but its more about the bi-pole action over high quality mid-range detail. Monitor Audios are nice, They have great dynamics, mid-range detail, wide sound stage with good depth. To me they are too bright/forward, but that is kinda my take on most British monitor speakers(B&W, KEF, etc.) Axiom, very interesting. 4x12 seems to feel that if he hadn't of gotten the MA RS6s then he would own the Axioms. I believe he actually likes the Axioms more then the MAs, you could ask him to be sure. I haven't heard them but I only hear good things about them. Seriously in the price range of the RX6, the Revel Concerta F12s, Focal Chorus 726v or 716v, Dynaudio Excite X16s, Dalis Lektor 6s or 8s($1800 but you could negotiate to $1400, i know) or even the Ikon 5s. I read a review of the Dyn Excite X12 and was compared to the MA RS6s, the Dyns were better in the mid-range and highs and only had less slam then the RS6s, after that all the Dyn bookshelf speakers were impossible to find, they were all bought up. Just something to think about. The Dali Concepts and Ikon 7s I heard right next to the MA RS6s, and they both just killed the MAs in detail and speed of the drivers. Im not saying that MAs are not good speakers, I like them, but in the price range, there are better ones. I don't think that Deftech can really compete with the others you and I have listed. JMO. However the bi-pole action makes for a very nice sound stage. soemthing you may chew on and consider. Last edited by callas01; 06-03-2010 at 05:19 PM. |

for your fronts or rears? typically the rears should be 1-2 feet above your head if possible. the fronts tweets should be level with your ears or slightly above.

Arrt I also read a review of the Revel F12s and they were comparing them to the more expensive Paradigm Studio 60s and they said the Revels had more detail and speed and bass, but a narrower sound stage, so that is saying something of the $1300 revels compared to the almost $2k pair-o-dimes....
