Great, great news. I've been looking forward to this one for a long time. Strange that the poster lists Kirk Douglas so far down in the billing. He's the co-star with Burt Lancaster. I guess his star was still rising in 1948. And Lizabeth Scott! Woot!

By the way, Lancaster and Douglas appear together in The Devil's Disciple, not The Devil's Advocate.

We should ashamed of ourselves, we released it a couple of years ago.

They also appeared together in Victory at Entebbe and The List of Adrian Messenger.

Don't want to derail the thread, but John Waters' work is important to quite a few people.

Outside of that, I Walk Alone is an amazing announcement! Was definitely high on my noir wishlist.

If I buy THE MAZE 3-d version and I don't have 3-D equipment will it play in 2-D in a bluray player? Can I use 3-D glasses to make it 3-D?

I just discovered BIG BUSINESS is being released again, this time from KINO. It's being called Special Edition.

May I ask what will be added to this to make it a Special Edition? Is it a new transfer? Any new material, extra features?

How will this be more special than the one I already own?

I'm not Bob Furmanek, but I believe that the Blu-ray disc will default to 2-D for those of us who don't have 3-D equipment. There will also be a DVD release that will only offer 2-D playback.

I don't think your 3-D glasses will work in this case, but Bob could answer that better than me.

Thats for damn sure. I want a big box set of Paint Your Wagon (like West Side Story but without the screwed up intro)....

I just bought the double feature during the recent sale.. had I known they were planning a stand-alone, I definitely would have waited because I have no interest in Scenes From a Mall. But that’s how it goes, I guess.

I’d definitely repurchase Big Business again if it were really a special edition, with new extras and/or a new transfer.

You need a 3D-capable BD player, a 3D-capable TV/projector, and the type of 3D glasses suitable for your TV/projector. You can't just use 3D glasses from a theater, as those use an entirely different, passive technology (i.e. the glasses aren't doing anything but sitting on your face), whereas the 3D glasses for home viewing have an active technology (the lenses are actually doing some active syncing/filtering).

So I would assume most people will be buying the regular 2-D version because so few can play the 3D.

I'm curious too. I can tell you I did ask KL About the Straight Talk Special Edition which is from the same studio. KL said this quite a few posts ago:

Quote:
Not sure about the transfer, we've asked Disney to research all the Hollywood/Touchstone titles and let us know which ones are new and which ones are the same version previously released on BD.
KL Post

Hope this helps....maybe KL will announce if it's a new transfer.

You'd be surprised. Vintage 3D has surprisingly large and devoted audience. Most of Twilight Time's 3D offerings have sold out at a noticeably faster rare than similar non-3D titles, for example.

The 3D Blu-ray will default to 2D if your TV is only 2D and not 3D.

If you have a friend with a 3D TV or 3D projector, the same disc will play the movie in 3D.

Glasses do not make a movie in 3D:
If it is projected in 3D, the glasses separate the right eye image and the left eye image for the appropriate eye and allow you to see 3D (otherwise you will just see 2 images on the screen). You must have a 3D TV or a 3D front projector setup to get 3D.

But, yes, the same Blu-ray disc of The Maze will play both 2D and 3D.

Although I don't have a 3-D setup, I'll still buy the Blu-ray of THE MAZE, since it will look better than the DVD version.
