Basically, he has no concern for how it fits into the larger story of the series, which is a big pile of poodoo for me.

I have concerns about what he said too, but the movie does look great and I'd rather have that than no Star Wars at all. I'm sure they will expand on the mythology in some ways otherwise we fans wouldn't be terribly happy.

I'm pretty meh about the prequels but I still wouldn't mind some cool stuff from them appearing in the new movies. For example I would LOVE an Obi-Wan movie with McGregor, and a Bobba Fett prequel should definitely go with his origin in AotC.

For as bad as the prequels are for many, there are some that like them. And if it wasn't for the prequels, we wouldn't have The Clone Wars and Rebels, so please don't write them out of cannon.

That's not what they said. They want to channel the spirit of the best of the series, Star Wars and Empire. They said nothing derogatory about the other four, but the tone and spirit of the first two films is the sweet spot they're aiming for. Nothing wrong with that.
