家庭简史 [Brief History of a Family] (2024: Lin Jianjie)

First viewing.

The story itself is already interesting enough. It's about a teen being adopted by (or infiltrating) a family of three.
The most striking though is the camera work, many shots look like photographs, photography even gets mentioned in the film.
The original score's great too, it consists of electronic music perfectly fitting the plot.
A nice discovery this film, but beware, it's pretty slow.

Hilarious It had some great jokes and the spirit of the original, imo. The kind of silly, funny movie that just makes you happy

Went to the theater yesterday and saw Bring Her Back (2025) and damn.

Finally a new horror movie that doesn't hold back punches or lighten the mood with comedy every few minutes! The production and casting were top-notch and the cinematography enhanced the already creepy events of the film. Would personally recommend this movie, but I know it's pretty heavy and not for everyone. I liked it however

The Roses (2025: Jay Roach)

First viewing.

I must say I like this film's differences to Danny DeVito's.
Foremost the fact the protagonists are British here, which gives it a whole other vibe, a bit like an English comedic play.

It's a fun discussion to see what everyone's favorite releases are. I've found some great new additions to my own collection just by seeing what others are excited about.

Caught Stealing (2025: Darren Aronofsky)

First viewing.

I wasn't expecting this.
I went to see this because of the director, but in the end it felt more like something Guy Ritchie would have done than Darren Aronofsky.
Instead of a dog it has a cat, but there's some Cockney accent being used, something which cements my feeling.

Jaws (1975) - 4/5 (first time viewing)

When a great white shark starts attacking and killing beachgoers, it's up to a police chief, a marine expert and an old seafearer to hunt and kill the predator for good.

Da-dun... da-dun... da-dun... must be two of the most famous notes in movie history. An exciting and suspenseful movie, definitely worth seeing. 🦈IMO the shark looked naff up close, but I guess they did what they could given the effects technology of the time
