I snapped the disc in half and mailed it back to them. This was before they stated that e-mailing any proof was an option. I haven't received any e-mail from Criterion about my replacement being sent. I suppose it will just show up in my mailbox in these next couple of weeks?

Does anyone know if the Criterion version of Some like it Hot will go out of print due to Kino Lorber having the rights to the 4K version?

Not likely. Criterion have the blu-ray rights, so Kino are only putting out the UHD version, for which they have snagged separate rights to. Same applies for Silence of the Lambs, Great Escape, In the Heat of the Night and some other releases.

You and me both, sister. I mailed it in on the first day it was announced. So much for being first in line.

The Criterion Some Like it Hot may be worth keeping. The UHD is being released by Kino which means pre-ordering is not a good idea. I have a hunch the UHD won't be screwed up but the jump from blu to UHD will be negligible in this case. I really wish Criterion was handling the release because they could get more out of it than Kino.

Will wait for the blu-ray community to review the UHD.

My biggest issue is comparing it to the 190 items on my watchlist.

Pretty sure I've got a handle on it, only had to watch 17 films in a week to get it done. Three across the next two days and I'm home safe.

Is Criterion the one doing First Reformed 4K?

That was one of the A24s I never got around to buying, so I'm definitely game.

Hopefully. Doing a release that’s loaded with extras would be great.

Was there any suggestion of a 4K coming?

Where did you hear that someone is doing a 4K of First Reformed?

Dawn Of The Discs posted about it but didn't specify which company. I guess I assumed Criterion because they did Uncut Gems?

While looking at Cure's page on the Janus website it mentions Blu-ray in terms of formats. While it's pretty obvious this is coming from Criterion soon enough, I'm just wondering why they would list the Blu-ray on the website, when it hasn't been officially announced yet. Is this something that has happened in the past before? Either way, really hope this is announced as one of the April titles.

Also, it looks like the Youth of the Beast DVD is now OOP. I'm not sure if that means that Criterion has lost the rights, or if a new edition might be in the works. This needs a US release for sure.

It's a very well-known common practice of Janus Films and a reliable way to predict what will be released on disc from Criterion. You can see the same phenomenon on the page for Miracle in Milan, another recent restoration that hasn't been officially announced by Criterion.

Hey I have finally decided to make the switch to a laser projector for my home theater. Being that I'm still watching 1080p blu-rays and haven't quite upgraded to 4k, after many weeks of research I've chosen to purchase the Epson EpiqVision Mini EF12 Smart Streaming Laser Projector. It's got HDR10, Android TV, sound by Yamaha, 3LCD, Full HD 1080p, 1000 lumen, portable, etc. Contrast ratio is apparently 200,000:1 too with deep blacks and rich darkness.

I'm starting 2022 off with a whole new way of watching my Criterion movies (and many others).

Does anyone else here in the Criterion thread know about or own this particular projector by any chance?

I’m not so sure, but Blu-ray.com has a separate section on home theatre components. You will probably get a more in depth response from one of those sub forums.

Does the new list come out at the start of each month? Or part way through?

Also, reading the review of the UK's release of Zazie dans le métro:
Quote:
despite having superior native characteristics the new master frequently has less actual detail than the older master...even though the older master has a dated appearance I think that overall it offers a more convincing presentation of the film.
But to me, the UK looks vastly better. What am I missing?

Criterion well-represented in Beaver's annual end-of-year summary, taking top spots in the Top 10 lists for BD and 4K with Mirror and The Red Shoes respectively - amongst other entries across the categories reviewed.

Always an enjoyable read; I like and admire Beaver's sheer enthusiasm for physical media.

Happy New Year everyone!
