We’ll see how the scores develop over the weekend but at least with critics so far it seems to be overall quite positive with a few mediocre-to-bad scores

According to the hollywood reporter, the new film takes on toxic fandom. Being that so much of hollywood seems to hate fan culture, I can see it is getting positive reviews from the "professional" critics.

I'm more interested in what the audience thinks. If its still got a good viewer rating after Scream fans watch a movie talking about how shitty they are, then it might actually be good. I'm not optimistic though.

I don't think it'll be bad, I just don't think it will be as good as the original, so the original having a lower score than this film says something about how criticism is done today.

Thats true the original SCREAM is a masterpiece. One of the true greats of all time. But even Scream 2 is higher than the original on RT which is just wrong too. I think its close to the original but definitely not better. This new one could very well be up in the same league as the 2 first ones. Which would be a welcome sight and shows the franchise is very much alive for more instalments.

Don't really care about reviews. But a good score might get others interested in seeing the movie. So bigger box office, hopefully.

I do care about fans of the franchise liking this one, this gives me hope.

[Show spoiler]I will keep it short and sweet. Radio Silence as the directors love to be referred to as have knocked this one way out of the park. They have taken the franchise back to its original film roots but also mixed in the modern day meta aspect from Scream 4 in a perfect combo.

Ghostface is truly terrifying again. The kills are bloody and super gory and just relentless when they happen. There is nothing holding him back this time. One characters death in particular let’s you know there is zero coming back from this.

I imagine a few of the usual suspects are going to find a problem with the third act as it’s gonna cause a bit of self-reflection but I thought the way they did the third act reveal and the motives were excellent. There are two killers, one is very obvious.

Sidney and Gale are great, if not a bit underused until the third act so don’t expect Sceeam 4 levels of usage in the film. Out of all the new characters, Jenna Ortega (Tara) and Melissa Barrera (Sam) impressed me the most with how they approach their respective roles.

Alright. As excited as I am for this, I keep seeing tweets that talk about how "funny" the new Scream is. Does this disappoint anyone else? Am I the only one who wants an absolutely brutal new take that leaves out all the comedy and meta garbage? I want something that is going to terrify me. Why does every film want to be everything? The MCU is having the same problem. If you want to make a comedy, go make a comedy and leave horror to people who want to make something that will scar an audience for life.

Metacritic has a 65 score out of 100 based on 19 reviews. Some are saying the film is too meta for its own good, something Kevin Williamson said it wouldn't do because it was time to try a new angle, after all it's the 5th film. I was kind of hoping for a new angle so I'm not as excited anymore.
Hoping this won't be a Halloween 2018 situation where they promise something exciting and fresh and it's the same old tricks, but now polished to a new generation.
