And you should read what I actually wrote before hitting me with the whole "how dare you" righteous indignation routine. I did not refer to "an elderly woman", I specifically said "PEOPLE", because there have multiple cases of people suing McDonalds, Starbucks, and other restaurants over hot coffee. The vast majority of these cases are thrown out by the judge, and none of the involved restaurants have lowered their coffee temperatures since that first suit 20 years ago.

Is the theatrical cut worth the extra coin for someone who has never seen either version of the movie?

Well for the most part, NONE of us have seen the directors cut, so basically most of us buying this is because we love the theatrical cut.

I normally stay away from these type of discussions but felt like finally chiming in... Once a company makes something a "limited edition" or "collector's edition", the blame falls squarely on their shoulders that the item becomes a "collectible". People collect many things, including movies, whether some of you like it or not; and insulting those collectors is what "children" do, not the other way around. There is an "unwritten rule" for Collectibles... You never raise an edition size for an item once it has sold out or almost sold out. And don't think for a moment that I'm not happy for those who initially couldn't get it... I am! But companies have to realize that if they are going to make collector items, they need to be prepared to play by the rules... so if you guys want to blame someone and insult people, aim it at the company that created the situation in the first place, not collectors just because they are collectors.

You've got time to rent the theatrical version & decide if you like it or not before you buy the set now.

its like they could release 10,000 copies tell the buyer in the beginning not after all the original copies sold out

When it comes to movies, my opinion is they should not be mere collectibles. The limited factor with blu-rays is done to move product aimed at a niche. When demand well than exceeds that limitation, the titles gets reissued anyway. What's the difference between owning the first print of a blu-ray when the second one has identical cover art and content. It's absurd! And you know down the line, that 4K transfer will come along, making your collector's edition ripe for the discount bin.

I have many DVDs with collector's edition or limitation I bought and have enjoyed, but when I sell them after having upgraded to blu-ray I'm lucky to find any buyers at all. But I don't mind that as I've used them, I've watched and enjoyed them plenty over the years! I didn't buy them to collect or put on display.

I doubt that. 4K will not be as big a selling point for these older titles. HD will likely be enough for most fans.

But what if another label decides to tackle Nightbreed and make a new transfer? Can you say for certain that this version will be the definitive one?

I can, actually, because it was such a costly effort on Scream Factory's part. This particular film, I suspect, won't see another release anytime soon.

I think it will be definitive also -
Can anyone say that if it sells 10000 copies that more would be made ?

I think this shout edition will stay at 10000, but the possibility exists of another label doing a new edition with exclusive extras or a new transfer? we havent seen anything yet. There also still isn't an international release...

Again, it's possible, but it would be very costly, and it's possible that the director's cut is out of reach for them.

I also think it will (just a feeling I have) remain at 10000 as far as another studio - that cannot be really determined because of the costs to make this release. Perhaps an overseas company could try but I would not bet the farm on it

compare this to the walking dead season 2 zombie head, yes it was limited but not numbered and in a few months it sold out and now worth around $200 to $250. when the season 3 limited came out everyone said buy it asap since it will be so limited but guess what they overproduced them and on amazon and it's still only at 80 for this season. I guess fans though it would be as limited as season 2

this is what will happen with this release. so many people will cancel the night breed, and i don't think shout will be able to sell an additional 5,000 of them + however many stock is left over from people canceling, so in the long run i don't see it reaching crazy figures on ebay or amazon due to over saturation or over stock

10,000 Copies is more than enough for all of us (+ a few eBay scalpers). This will be like the 3,000 L.E. of "Demons(1985)" and "Demons 2(1986)" by Synapse Films..........almost a year and still there to buy.

REGARDS

Well I'm definitely glad I got in those first 1000. I never plan to sell mine, but I like that I can say I jumped on it early and got part of the "first run."

Otherwise what's to be upset about?

Yes I was unhappy I didn't secure a preorder and then now I'm happy since I can get a copy. Fail to see your point. Its like you point out something really obvious and somehow it relates to people complaining about something totally different simply because it carries the same sentiment of being upset.

Although I'm not buying it to sell, I want this movie. I am a collector, for myself of films I love/enjoy.

My gripe/moan isn't that 5k more are printed or that this is no longer either a limit or collect able item, I don't care for that (I was just glad I got an order in for a movie I want). I'm purely annoyed at the scam. It was $80 BECAUSE...all this work to get the material, the deal with WB etc for 5000 so that's why it so high guys........Fine. I ordered it (amazon$65)

Well it ain't 5000 only anymore, so why still so high? Limited? No. Collectable? Not now.

They were happy with the profit involved off 5000 for $80 a time, you know 'for the fans we care about'. It's just a shame that so many just happily suck it up and accept.
