Maybe not in the traditional sense, but it still has a lot in common with gialli. It's fundamentally a mystery in which the characters are killed off by a black-gloved killer. I just see it as a supernatural take on the subgenre.

Worth it for the "this little piggy" explosion-fest near the end of the film.

And for the full on snog between Thompson and Reed

(I do regret buying it - only because the extras are so throwaway.)

I'm open to mediocrity, depending on my mood. As a comics fan it's an 'obligation' to watch nearly every superhero film regardless of quality - in the same way some action fans can look past faults and find some fun explosions, 80s cheese etc. I've seen some great action films over the years but it's not a genre that does much for me.

Contamination is an interesting example - part of me wants to watch it (I'm entranced by the shiny slipcover), but I see some less than positive reviews and am put off. And because I don't have the biggest budget I have to be selective.

Would be worth it for booklets full of critical essays, but I suspect the disks themselves would be fairly barebones.

Me to but I took a punt on this one and I love it.

It's definately none of these...according to MichaelB's post on Facebook, it is something that has had no previous british video release & few theatrical screenings.

That's a total non-argument anyway. Arrow Films has several sub-brands, horror tends to go out under Arrow Video and "arsty-fartsy" (not my words but I understand the meaning!) via Arrow Academy.

So I read in the North American subforum here earlier today that Cult Epics will be releasing Jörg Buttgereit's "Schramm" later on this year.

Since Cult Epics released both Nekromantik films in North America first (and then Arrow did their boxed sets for them), I wonder if Arrow will do limited edition boxed sets for other Buttgereit films like "Der Todesking" or "Schramm" since both Nekromantik limited editions were such hot sellers?

It's a crime that Woody Allen's classics have yet to come out on Blu-ray in the UK (only Annie Hall and Manhattan I think). In the US we have to pay 35$ each from Twilight Time but at least they're available.

When Stardust Memories gets a Blu-ray release I'll be very happy.

A Marguerite Duras set would be amazing.

It's an objectively terrible film but it has a kickin' soundtrack and the opening act especially has some fun genre appeal on a base level. Also the Arrow disc is extremely well done. For a super fan of the genre it's probably worth it, if you enjoy bad movies.

I've been hopeful for a Duras set since Rivette was announced, given the Stéphane Tchalgadjie connection.

Eustache would also fit the bill.

Have just finished The Long Good Friday and had a bit of a read of the accompanying book. Very impressive package - really beautiful and well presented.
Congratulations @MichaelB, this is a special edition that truly lives up to the name.

Not especially, but I do enjoy Goblin and the effects look pretty sick based on the trailer - hence my dilemma!

Arrow stuff holds its value well on ebay and the like, so if you take the risk and hate the experience you might not lose much more than a rental fee anyway. That's how I tend to think about it when buying Arrow, Twilight Time, Criterion and Scream Factory discs.

The final specs for the 'American Horror Project Vol. One' set are up on Facebook and a chap by the name of Kyle Murray posted this in response:

Pretty sexy stuff. That combined with the final specs convinced me to order this. I was gonna try and hold it off for as long as possible because I've been spending quite a bit lately, but I don't wanna miss out on this one.

Yeah, I think so. The optimist in me wants to think that's how it looks in either form, but even if they managed to avoid plastering the box set with the certificates, they'd no doubt be on the individual spines.

Turns out this Kyle chap is an Indiegogo backer and received the set early, which must mean that there are members of the forums with it also. We need more photos, people!
