You are lying to yourself if you think that.

Them tampering with it and adding DNR makes it look worse than if they would of just left it alone.

Am I ?

Last saw this, about 20 yrs ago on VHS. Blu Ray looks great. The opening outside scenes look like a movie made recently.

What are you expecting?? What do you think the budget was on this in the first place. These are cheap video nasties they are trying to give out a great overal package. Movies with much bigger amounts have less of great deal on offer.

Arrow provide good value for money and are great items for collectors and those who remember the original releases, with their different cover options and posters etc. Do you get that with modern multi million $ movies.

The answer to all of the above is Evil Dead, Evil Dead, Evil Dead, Evil Dead, Evil Dead and Evil Dead.

Made for a fraction of most of these movies, yet looks fab and groovy.

Why's that?

If the transfer's good enough, they could put it in a bin bag, as far as I'm concerned.
Good transfers sell regardless, shit ones need all the bolted on tat they can get.

Arrow's Phenomena makes a mid 1980's Donald Pleasance look as if he has undergone an extremely successful face-lift. Having said that, it's easily the best current version of the film.

Actually, it is a fact - Arrow work with whatever they are offered and do not do the things you seem convinced they do.

And just so that we are clear, they don't get 'prints'. If you wish to talk about transfers, then we could possibly agree.

Thanks for the help, some people just don't want to believe in the facts though, shame really. Feel sorry for Arrow Video getting shtick for something out of their hands

I finally watched my copy of The Funhouse yesterday and was suprised to see that it does not have Lossless audio. Despite what some online reviewers have cited, it includes a DTS 2.0 track at 1509kbps.
You only have to see the back cover of this release to see that it labels it as DTS 2.0.
Makes me wonder if these guys that reviewed it even saw the disc.

Well, to be fair, Arrow has had some solid releases, such as Dawn of the Dead, which had better PQ than the U.S. release, and Funhouse (though it has lossy Audio).

No lossy audio on Funhouse for me.

And I do not think that the differences between the US and UK Blu Ray of Dawn of the Dead are that visible.
They really look alike on a 40" TV.

http://caps-a-holic.com/hd_vergleich...ss=0#vergleich

Plus, the US BD offers the correct aspect ratio.

It has DTS but it's not DTS-MA, so it's lossy audio that isn't high-def, thus lossy.

Yeah, I forgot about the aspect ratio, but from what I understand, it was screened at 1.78:1 in the UK for some reason though Romero never went out and said he preferred that aspect ratio. Other than that, the transfer wasn't as botched as other Arrow releases. My point still stands on Funhouse being a quality release by Arrow. Just a side note: I wonder if Anchor Bay's US BD release of Battle Royale will have a better transfer than the one Arrow released.

That's the big question!!
I wonder too!

And yes Arrow has many great releases to offer in their catalogue.

I think of Funhouse too, but also of Spirits of the Dead (which is incredible but people often forget about it), Obsession and also Bay of Blood which isn't bad!

You're right!
Such a great movie.

Lately I saw Naked City from the same director and that is awesome too!!

But the reason why I didn't name Rififi is that I think it's a french restoration from Gaumont and that they only used the french transfer on this release...

Well I may be wrong, but when I looked at the screenshots of Arrow's disc and compared them to my french disc I thought they looked identical.

So far on Arrow, I have;

Dawn of the Dead
Day of the Dead
Phenomena
Maniac Cop

Pre-Ordered - Red Scorpion

Comparing these to previous issues, I think they are all much better releases. Both in quality of picture and sound and also the overal package included.

I'll include Red Scorpion, even though not released, becasue regardless of the negative comments, the PQ the goodies included and the extras will be much better then the VHS and the DVD.
