What am I missing?

I do appreciate your help.
Here’s an example: Are you able to pull up the Chinese Theater in LA?https://www.imax.com/theatres/tcl-chinese-theatres-imax

If so, you will notice 3 icons next to the listing and one is similar to a triangle. Do you see that icon? That is the symbol for Laser Imax. If the theater doesn’t have that symbol next to it, it isn’t Laser Imax.

Yes, did that and I also found this list:

http://lfexaminer.com/theaUSA.htm

But it only shows 9 3D Laser IMAX movie theaters in all the US, notably these:

California: Burbank, Bay Street,Chinese Theater, Metreon, and Puente,
Missouri: Barrywoods
New York: Empire and Lincoln Square
Texas: Northpark

There are probably another 10 that that are the IMAX theaters where you go vacation and see IMAX documentaries.

So am I way off base or are there only 9 IMAX 3D Laser theaters in the whole USA? That's a long trip from North Carolina to Texas to see a movie.

Helluupp!

I never bothered to check outside CA but if there’s no Laser symbol, then you’re out of luck.

I guess I should feel lucky to have a center seat at the first 3D showing in one of 9 Laser Imax theaters in the universe.

Not worth the cost just to see a movie, you will have to make a vacation out of it to justify the cost. And you’re about right there’s very few imax laser in the US, Dolby is expanding a lot faster with AMC.

Thanks for the help freakyguy. Sometimes that's how the cookie crumbles.

I've always said it is better to be lucky than to be smart.

Depends on how you look at:

If they are not smart but have dumb luck then they believe they are smart. That's where the dumb part comes in.

If they are smart and have dumb luck then they never brag because they are smart and know a lot of what they have is due to dumb luck.

Then they wouldn’t be both....and that is precisely what I wrote.

Incorrect. Bragging is bragging, doesn’t matter whether it is due to luck or due to being smart.

Yes, Joe, people who are smart seem to realize most of all that they are lucky to be smart. I am sure you realize how lucky you are to have your wonderful wife, for example, as do I. And realize that all the smartness in the world is worthless if you aren't lucky first of all. Wrong country, wrong mom and dad,God didn't bless you with brains, etc. life is a lot harder. That's just dumb luck.

The big problem in our country is there are a lot of people who aren't smart, don't know it, but who have a lot of dumb luck. In our country that will carry you a long way. But in the end their big mouths and lack of smarts get them in trouble or cause them to venture where they shouldn't go. I am sure we all know people like that. I even see some on this forum. It is entertaining to watch them have to be right and get the last word all the time, even if they sound foolish. But they do make life more entertaining.

If you truly believe that’s “the big problem” with our country, you must be one sheltered & extremely lucky guy

Unfortunately when you have 100 million people in a country who confuse dumb luck with brains it becomes "the big problem." Especially when you give them the right to vote. I call it the "everyone thinks they are a genius" problem. When in fact, they can't piss in a boot. Just try to tell them they are wrong about anything.

But you are right. It is obscene how sheltered and extremely lucky I am. Guilty as charged. And spoiled as hell as well. I am fortunate enough to just be able to laugh at all these geniuses who are really as dumb as a bag of hammers. i don't have to depend on them for anything and don't care what they do or say. It is so liberating.

Being extremely sheltered isn’t the best environment to gain insight into the thoughts and disposition of 100 million people. Believing you have such insight from that insulated position is an amusing thought however!

Hi Bill,

You remember the old saying? "The masses are asses".

And the biggest problem is too many make an assumption and then claim it to be fact. And then ignore verifiable evidence to the contrary.

We might be guilty of this too. How often do I say 3D is not dead, contending it appears that way due to unreasonable expectations?

And yes, I am very lucky that pieces out of my control just happened to occur at the right moment. My folks able to send me to college at the time the New York City University system was tuition free. That I met Mary Jane at a dance and saw her dancing with a girlfriend at a certain time. And that because a mammogram had to be rescheduled a few months later a small tumor was discovered which only just started, was zero level and able to be taken care of. It might not yet had started if she had the mammogram as originally scheduled and then grown to something more serious the next year.

Yes, that's dumb luck and I'm happy to be the recipient of such dumbness.

My previous statement:

So I take it you disagree with me? Unlike me, as you are a man of the people, I can hardly wait to hear your insights into what you believe are the challenges our country faces, i.e., "the big problem". It will good to have input from the other end of the spectrum, the common man.

What conclusions have your reached?

No more 3d for me in cinemas. I have been spoiled by my on home theatre 3d experience but at the same time, its not the most high end set up.

So movies which are on the flat side, like 2049 I end up just watching the 2d release. If I had a high end TV, I am sure the 3d experience would be better.

I'm really miffed at IMAX for withdrawing support, with RARE exceptions, for 3D presentations.

At my local IMAX, I can go see Endgame at 3pm. I work for a living -- toss out that option.

A bit further away, I can catch it at 10:30pm -- it's a 3 hour film that gets out at 1:30am.

Thanks IMAX.

RealD is not an option. Anyone here ever see a good 3D presentation in RealD? My experience has been the image is dark. RealD Black Panther was dark even in the light of day scenes. RealD needs to get real.

3D at home is quite good on my aging 47 LG. I wanted to go OLED but when I saved enough to marginally afford one, the burn-in issues became well known and I hesitated.

I'm waiting for Samsung to come out with a miniLED with passive 3D. (Do I hear chuckles, guffaws , or rude remarks?) But, of course, I'm waiting for MI: Fallout on 3D Blu-ray ...
