Unfortunately, just because they debunked a rumor doesn't really mean it's false, as we all learned during the Blu-Ray/HD war.
What's most interesting to me about rumors like these, is companies are shooting themselves in the foot if they take these offers. In spite of everything that Microsoft has attempted, the PS3 train is starting to take off. So all these companies that are accepting money for timed exclusives are slowing down the rate at which they can make money, because they are slowing down the PS3 train. Honestly if all these developers hadn't jumped ship to the 360, the PS3 would probably be ahead in worldwide sales right now, and as a result they would have made far more money off of it. Very similar to what Paramount did by accepting the HD DVD bribe...they slowed down the entire adoption curve. I would feel differently if the 360 was accelerating in sales, but 360 sales continue to stagnate. |

+1 Exactly it. Developers are shooting themselves in the foot by doing anything for Microsoft. They should have all stuck behind the dominate console maker as it's very obvious that they would continue to dominate simply due to 'buy ups' from owners of their previous consoles. To this day I can not understand how developers came to be in the position they are right now. It's such poor business that I'm even more shocked that so many of them fell into the Microsoft trap on this one. The Xbox failing miserably (first one) and Microsoft's inability to make any money whatsoever off of consoles should have been a big flashing red light saying, 'Stop! Stop! Stop! Stick with what you know will dominate and succeed!' It's ludicrous. Again, I point to this charming assessment by top consultants: http://www.gamesindustry.biz/article...uggle-for-xbox I fear developers were simply woo'd by the Microsoft hype engine and didn't actually stop and think things through. I'm hoping they see the light soon. |

"In-Game XMB not so complete?
Posted by Talk Playstationon Jun.24, 2008 at 12:49 pmIt seems that the long awaited in-game cross media bar isn’t as complete as users hoped. According to a member on the Gamefaqs forums who claims to work for Sony said that it won’t be complete XMB access. He did however say that you can play music (which confirms custom sound tracks for your games) and send messages to friends. The only other option that this GameFAQS user could do is add a bluetooth device. Everything else he tried asked him to quit the game first before accessing restricted menu’s. “It won’t be complete XMB access. You can for the most part play music and send messages, the only other option I’ve actually found that worked with the current build that was out was that you could add a bluetooth device. Every other option asked you to quit the game before being able to do anything else.” Likewise, this can lifted in future firmware updates, allowing more access as time goes by." Sigh, somehow I knew this was going to be the case. I had a sneaking suspicion that once people actually starting using it, they would immediately start discovering limitations to the in game XMB access. |

while the ps3 is better overall, they should feel pressure, when their console doesn't support basic features that their competitor's "not as good" console has supported since day 1.

I probably should have worded that better. Playing videos, viewing photos (it could be any size) etc is an unreasonable expectation. You get the idea. Managing bluetooth devices isn't, it affects gameplay if you can't switch to your USB or alternative bluetooth headset when the first runs out of power.

Personally, these features really are about the only ones I care about. I was worried that automatic custom music would not be included and that the only thing in-game xmb would do is in game messaging. Now that we know that in game custom soundtracks, in game messaging, trohphies, and blue tooth are there, honestly who cares about the rest? Last edited by Steelmaker; 06-24-2008 at 02:55 PM. |
