Zombie Flesh Eaters Blu-ray REVIEW

This is a fantastic release

p.s.
During the film's opening credits, immediately after Lucio Fulci's name appears, I noticed I small skip. Since I do not yet have a market version of this release, I have contacted Arrow to clarify whether the skip appears only on my screener. Will update when I hear back.

Edit: ^ Apparently, it is a sharp cut which only my disc (not a final pressed copy) isn't handling well.

I am so happy about the review and this release in general. Arrow are by far my favourite distributer and I have been able to relive my childhood through their releases. Some may not be as good as others in terms of aesthetics but as overall packages the love and care show throughout. Hopefully pre-orders start being posted and recieved this week!

I have a few discs with a small skip from a fault at the authoring stage. Sometimes on newly made films. As long as the bd timer itself doesn't skip, it doesn't deter me from keeping the disc. I'll be picking up this Arrow bd but will probably wait for an even cheaper price (11 pounds on amazon is great but I am on a tight bd budget at the moment).

We just heard back from the factory packing the Blu-rays and sadly the standard edition of ZFE will not contain the poster as it would not fit inside the case, it was too much content to go under the lugs and they could not pack it in due to their tolerances.

The SteelBook, DVD and LE Slipbox will all contain the poster in the first pressing (future pressings will not have the poster) so order quick to make sure you get one!

Stock is starting to come into our warehouse and we'll ship our to all who pre-ordered straight away!

That sucks, I find it strange that it's too big for the blu ray case but not for the steelbook...

They could easily ask people to send proof of dispatch/purchase to get the poster directly from Arrow so people aren't missing out.

I thought that, but I suppose it's that the lugs (never knew that's what they were called) are tighter on the standard blu-ray cases.

It's the Film that matters.

The Poster would have just been a nice extra.

Not the end of the world.

I'm guessing it's the tray that makes it tight aswell. The steelbook has the overlap layout.

I didn't say it was, for some people it might be...kinda like "fuzzy" disc art.

And like the good loyal fans you all are, you all defend Arrow and well......if it can't fit in the steelbook then by golly it can't fit in the standard blu ray case either! Oh it's the lugs. That'll be a new word we see from now on from the fans. How are the lugs? They must be tighter.

And when's the film out? Matter of days and they just find this out? They couldnt have just folded a sheet of paper just to make sure it all fits in the case? Either that cut down Calum Waddells hours and get rid of his booklets. Probably him doing the one for this too.

It's a poster. Considering all of the reviews so far point towards this being the definitive release of the film, you are expecting people to what exactly? Boycott it over one edition not having a poster? And because they're not we're all 'good loyal fans' who will just 'defend Arrow'? Lose the tin foil hat, it's getting old fast.

It's a little unprofessional that they didn't find this out sooner, but they've bumped the size of the booklet up, and what Arrow perhaps were able to fit in by hand wasn't possible with the actual manufacturers machinery. They're not all seeing omnipotent entities, as you keep reminding us .

The release is a week today, they've given people notice at least, so should anyone really want a folded up poster they can switch their pre-orders to one of the other versions. What more do you want from them?

For what it's worth, the booklet contains:

Quote:
Collector’s booklet featuring brand new writing on the film by Fulci biographer Stephen Thrower, a new interview with star Olga Karlatos by Calum Waddell, a history of Zombie Flesh Eaters and the BBFC by Craig Lapper, one of the board’s senior examiners, and extracts of the original ‘Nightmare Island’ 1978 script including unfilmed, alternate, and more gory sequences as well as a Lucio Fulci CV compiled by Jay Slater
Although I doubt it matters to you at all, judging from your post history.

I couldn't give a rat's ass about a poster personally, sort of thing I'd unfold once, look at, shrug my shoulders, refold and put back into the box never to look at again. The booklet sounds far more interesting although really...it's the films and extras I'm buying it for. Odd thing to be buying a blu-ray for I know

the poster isn't a deal breaker for me at all. Honestly I look at it once and that is it. I ordered the Limited Editon cardboard style slipcover editon months back. I take it orders are starting to ship?

A bit unfortunate that the poster won't go in the standard version and I can see a lot of people being disappointed now. But I guess I can live without the poster.

Im fine, I ordered the limited release. I guess if anyone was a huge fan or collector they'd have ordered the same or Steel as a second choice. These will get the poster, if you are ordering something classed as standard and the cheapest version then don't be too shocked and pissed you're not getting everything.
Spend the extra £3 if you want the poster and better packaging.

I was hoping the same thing. And thankfully that happened. I've never been too impressed with most of the Arrow Video releases (Vamp & a few others look great. And their Academy line is fantastic). And these Italian horror films seem to always get a rough release, but Arrow seems to have knocked this out of the park. Just flipping through my BU copy of Zombi and comparing it with the captures, the improvement seems to be substantial.

Can't wait for my Steelbook.

All of the BD's of the American films they've released look really good, it's the Italian films and the authoring facility in Rome that Arrow have had the problems with. Looks like the decision to do all the restoration of ZFE in London has paid off big time.
