Now I'm more confused. I pre-ordered the new listing but I'm not sure which edition I'd want more... so I'm going to wait for more details and then decide.

I loved the cover-art shown for the new set listing. I thought it was great for the US set but couldn't stand the slip-box cover where they messed up the display of his last name. So this certainly helps with that. I wonder if it will be otherwise pretty similar to the US release?

As the price is just a few bucks more I think I may get the Larger Masterpiece Collection. It is funny how cheap these are compaired to the now $225USD US version. I know NBNW is missing in the UK version, however it would make more sence to simply import. And with it being Universal we can count on region free-plus it says region free on Amazon!

What is everyone else in the US doing? To import or not to import?

OK now I'm confused. I've got both on pre-order now but no idea which I will eventually keep.

-------------------------------------

Once upon a time, decisions were easy. Buy something, or not.

Now there are so many different choices that it gives me a headache.

Steelbook, Amaray, 3D, Cut version, Uncut version, Poor picture but loads of extras version, Good picture but no extras version, Large Box, Small Box, Weird shape but cool box, Version with cool collectible but nowhere to put it...

I think the larger Masterpiece set is the obvious choice. You get a much nicer set for a few bucks more plus more extra little stuff. The only downside is that it takes up more shelf space. But I honestly like to display stuff like this, and it is a beautiful set.

There's something wrong here, surely? It's unheard of for a set this size to be released in two radically different versions for roughly the same price. This will totally confuse everyone.

I suspect we'll see one of them disappear. Either the new listing is an error or the old one is being replaced. Or the old one will bump up in price by a considerable amount very shortly.

I don't want to choose! But I like the new one better. If only it was a combination of the two, with the size of the old one with the art of the new one.

The new listing says it's got a figure and god knows what else. Is this the same for the old one?

Really confused.

A "figure"? Where does it say that? I don't see it on the amazon listing.

EDIT: Oh I see - on the blu-ray.com listing. But that can't be right - there's no room in that second set. Not that I see a figure in the first set packaging shot either.

I much prefer the new cover that looks like the us version. The old one was too big imo.

Have to say, I like the newer cover too. I don't need a whole mess of extra "stuff". I just want the films. Decided to cancel the other UK set and order the cheaper set....saves me a few GBP for another day. This autumn is getting awfully expensive!

We really need to see proper pictures of these both soon.

I'm nervous that the first one they announced may end up looking tacky as can be.

Hook us up!

I pretty much agree with you, however I am wondering if the clear shell over the set is that cheap flexible plastic or if it is hard. I think it being a hard, more solid plastic would make it a much nicer set. I'm still debating on whether to import the Masterpiece Collection or the basic US edition.

If done right, it'll be absolutely awesome.

If it's hard then it would most likely be polystyrene - so brittle and not very scratch resistant. I think it is more likely that it will be a flexible plastic like cellulose acetate or polyester.

Either way, I think the new look packaging would be better.

It looks likes something that will have prominent place on display. But it really depends on how well done the clear case is.

That's what I'm thinking too Chipster. I may actually cancel the pre-order and wait to see some real shots of it, time will have to tell.

ooops that was a vestigial leftover from cloning the early entry when creating the new entry. (figure/books/swag/memorabilia field is a new db feature. Guess the developers made it part of the cloned fields). Taken out.

Watched : Vertigo in 70mm at the Edge Cinema Katoomba!

http://cinemaverge.wordpress.com/201...-is-a-stunner/

It was awesome and the print was in superb condition as it was the restored version that was released in the mid 90s! It was so great to watch this classic on the big big screen, 70mm is a very large format! Such a shame that we basically watched probably the second last showing of a 70mm print ever in NSW(the edge is the only cinema in NSW that still has a 70mm projector and the owners have made the unbelievable decision to get rid of it early next year!) the only other cinema in Australia that has one is the Astor Cinema in Melbourne.

As much as its nice to go and see the latest release in a crisp digital format it is very sad that there will be no further distribution of film after next year.

It was a great experience last night and a fitting choice given that Vertigo was voted the number 1 film of all time by Sight & Sound just last week!

The next classic to screen will be Citizen Kane
