Something similar.

I remember back in 1993 there were two movies I recorded on VHS.
Menace II Society and Cliffhanger.
Back in the day I didn't think much about it and ofcourse those tapes were long gone when I realized when they aired Menace II Society again that something was missing. Even on the DVD that I had owned some of the violence was missing. My friends said it was all in my head. I didn't have those tapes anymore to prove it, but later I saw on movie censorship there was indeed a more violent version.
So in this case I was right.

Then there's Cliffhanger.
I'm pretty sure the dutch broadcast version showed more squibs back in the day.
I can't prove it anymore since that ship has sailed.
Maybe I want a more violent cut of Cliffhanger so bad, that I am positive I had seen it in the past.
Sometimes the memory makes up things.

Our memory can play tricks on us.
I had quite a long argument with a girlfriend about the waterfall scene that I remembered so vividly in JP. It was described so well in the book I had managed to create the same scene with the correct actors (I originally read the book picturing Jeff Goldblum as Grant) in my mind. When the scene finally turned up in JP3 it was not as good as my version.

On German forums, this is also known as the "Head-in-the-Box" syndrome.

(referring to the finale of David Fincher's "Se7en", of course).

We call it the "Mandela Effect" - but usually more than one person has the 'memory'

I had similar experience with Cliffhanger but it was due to heavy hand of the UK censors back in the 90s. I watched the "uncut" R rated version on an overnight ferry from the UK to Denmark in 1993. Loved the movie and bought it on VHS when it came out, only to discover it had been cut to death. I'd love to watch the unrated version one day though.

Isn't the US 4K UHD of 'Cliffhanger' uncut? Hope so, I've just ordered it.

Love 'Strange Days'... so underrated and Fiennes was superb (even his accent).

It's as "uncut" as has ever been legally available.

Don't think we'll ever see an unrated dir's cut.

One of my other favorite films is Roman Polanski's FRANTIC.

The film involves the kidnapping of Ford's wife, Betty Buckley.

Years ago, a person swore, swore on the IMDB boards that they had seen a TV airing in which there was an alternate (presumably original) ending in which Ford sleeps with Michelle, the girl who helps him look for Buckley, and at the end, it's revealed that Buckley is in league with the terrorists who kidnapped her.

Another user on the IMDB boards agreed and also swore they had seen this alternate ending, but there was no evidence of its existence.

I had seen the film many times and found this implausible.

Eventually, I ended up contacting Polanski's office when the BD had an audio error, in order to get him to fix it. He sent me a shooting script, to thank me.

Indeed, the ending was it had always been, there was no alternate ending, save for a few altered shots.

There were also people on the Jurassic Park thread swearing they had seen a shot of Laura Dern grabbing a leaf from a plant earlier than the moment in the film when she does so, or something like that. They finally realized they had confused a shot in the trailer with the film itself, or some such thing.

I think you could also be remembering the trailer for Strange Days, which cuts directly from a shot of Fiennes taking Lewis's top off to a shot of the lawyer watching the clip, from 0:18-0:22:

STRANGE DAYS - Trailer ( 1995 ) - YouTube

Our memory can play tricks on us.

Thank You James for ALL your time, and efforts...I don't know why the other guy couldn't have just done what you did, instead of coming at me with ALL guns blazing!!! I mean insulting strangers, being rude to them for no reason at all, when you've done nothing to them is beyond ridiculous, and shouldn't be allowed on ANY forum.

I've been with this site not too long - Since 2016, met some nice people - traded, and bought from a few, and never had anyone just verbally abuse me for no reason, but unfortunately it does apparently happen.

Anyway, I'm not going to give up on my quest for that scene, but I thank you again for your time, efforts, and above anything else - Decency, respect, and kindness.

That "other" poster was actually very polite and civil with you, you're the one who was rude. You have a questionable definition of "verbal abuse", especially when you're the one who started the name calling.

The scene in question was never filmed. I don't know what you saw, but it wasn't in Strange Days.

I wasn't the one who started the sarcasm, or rudeness, but you're going to see it you way, and his, and I'm NOT interested.

All I ever was interested in was learning about the whereabouts of the missing scene. Not trading insults with people online.

Thanks again to James Luckard for his time.

Another famous one is Zulu: in the pre-VHS era many were convinced there was a scene where the DeWitt's buggy was thrown off a cliff with them in it and that it was cut from TV prints. There was no such scene in Zulu - indeed, stills still exist of Miss DeWitt returning to Rorke's Drift at the end of the film, part of a rather unlikely deleted romantic subplot that was never intended to be in the final cut but which was shot to placate the film's backers. What people probably were remembering was a scene in the 1955 film Untamed, where a wagon does end up going over a cliff and which also features battles with Zulus, and the two films merged in their memory.

LOL That's a good movie, but I haven't seen it in ages, you've got me wanting to go back, and watch that again!

I've never even bothered to look, and see if it was available on Blu-Ray, it's been that long since I saw it.

Unfortunately no.
I think most of Renny Harlin's movies from that era are missing squibs.
Not to go totally offtopic, but in Die Hard 2, the scene were Robert Patrick (not known at the time) gets shot, you can clearly see multiple giant squibs on his back, but only one explodes. Such a shame.

Ontopic, too bad I can't comment on Strange Days. I've seen that movie multiple times back in the 90s and then never again. Could it be it was in some European home video editions? If so, there would be some evidence of that on the internet, wouldn't there be?

Thank You.
I still think it's pretty simple. People are misremembering the brief scene a couple of minutes earlier of Lenny watching a clip of two women having sex.

Even if I could find the scene online, I wouldn't post it here, as it has nudity. But anyone who has seen the film will remember it.

Ralph Fiennes is sitting in a toilet stall, watching a clip two women have recorded for him to sell, in which they are having sex, with one woman kissing the other's breasts in the clip.

The scene cuts back and forth between Fiennes in the stall, with the SQUID rig on his head, to the footage he's watching, which is tinted yellowish orange, and is from the POV of one of the women, like all the SQUID clips.

It is the exact same POV that one would see of any SQUID clip of a girl showering, it is a naked woman looking down at her own breasts.

That's an important point. Anyone who remember a shot of the shower girl from afar, showing her whole body, hasn't understood the film at all. All SQUID shots are POV shots, a shot like that would be impossible within the world of the film.

I ask you to go rewatch this scene of Fiennes and the two women. I promise you, it's the scene you're remembering.

It comes right after the lengthy sequence of Fiennes driving through the hellish streets of LA, listening to various radio stations, about five minutes in.

The person in the YouTube comments says they remember it from the VHS, and from clicking on their profile, it's clear they're in the US.

The idea that this shot was included on a US VHS release is entirely false.

I owned both the US pan-and-scan VHS and the rarer US widescreen VHS.

Those home video releases both contained the entirely unaltered theatrical cut.

The UK VHS, DVD and BD of the film are all censored by the BBFC.

The other European editions contain the normal theatrical version.

James, Thank You again, for your response. I do read, and understand what you're saying, and appreciate your analysis of all the facts, and find it of interest, but unfortunately this is something that's going to drive me nuts for quite sometime...

On the other hand, the sideshow that's simultaneously going on in the same thread is something I can, and will live without. I mean I came here for answers to my question regarding the missing scene, and I won't get dragged off into something else that's not even relevant. If the new anonymous cheerleader wants to continue to do so - that's their business, but I already stated I won't respond again. The bigger person is most certainly the one who walks away. So much to their disappointment I won't be wearing out the quote button! LOL (I didn't even read their latest installment, and I won't read the next either)

I digress, Thanks for your posts, they are of interest, and I won't permanently rule out that you are indeed right, and that there was no nude shower scene, but for now, I will continue to hunt for this scene, as it is engraved in my memory.

CHEERS!
