Germany Strange Days (1995) 20th Anniversary Edition

So I just noticed the listing for this and for only like 15 bucks with shipping it certainly beats the hell out of the OOP blu-ray. I did notice however that Koch is releasing it this time. Will the transfer be the same? Will the subtitles be removeable? Does anyone know the specs of the disc?

Yeah I know, im just curious if it will have the same transfer and removeable subtitles because the price is right. SO MUCH cheaper than the out of print blu-ray.

Wouldn't it be funny if it's the same non-anamorphic DVD era transfer? This was a Lightstorm Entertainment production, if my memory is correct, Jim Cameron's company. I think it's safe to assume the film is mired in the same limbo as True Lies and Abyss. Then again, the Europeans may have found a way to remaster the film

Two recent Koch releases Mad Dog And Glory and The Secret of My Success were decent transfers. Depends on what Universal supply them with. I have the older out of print Kinowelt Strange Days disc. The UK dvd was anamorphic and while the Strange Days blu ray release was by no means reference it was a modest upgrade over the dvd

Im not looking for a better transfer, just on that is as good as the last blu-ray they put out thats currently out of print and is being scalped for like 80 bucks. I would assume it's the same though. Im more worried about the subtitles though. On your other Koch releases they are removeable right? I imagine it will be the same here I just want to be sure, thanks.

there are very few German releases with forced subs 88 minutes and The Mothman Prophecies spring to mind -
I have quite a few German discs and subtitles are removable on all including Koch titles.

Just one thing to watch for is usually when there is foreign language dialogue the German translation is forced - for example in Friedkins The Hunted when the Serbian soldiers are talking the translation is forced in German - otherwise the disc is fine. Its a great transfer and hasn't been released anywhere else so I can live with that

When there is some written text at the start of a movie or the end or even newspaper headlines they are usually translated into German like at the start of The Hunted and Mr Brooks and All Good Things discs.

Strange Days will be ok as the dialogue is all spoken English and there is no written text requiring forced German captions.

As I do these days I always check for a review before purchasing though just in case.

Ordered! I already have the current German blu, but I do like the poster artwork they're using for this one, plus it seems the transfer may be better.

I'll wait for reviews, etc.

I own the previous release and the same master with a higher bitrate isn't going to cut it.

2nd disc is listed as a DVD on bluray-disc.de, btw.

I don't mind, it still beats the hell out of the previous release price wise. Eventually this will drop even lower and you'l get it for around 10 bucks.

One of my favorite movies, an under-appreciated sci-fi/noir masterpiece. I own the OOP German disc.

So strange this has never had a US release, but looking forward to the extras on this, hope it's a new transfer too.

The German distributors have now released it there on BD three times. It must have a bigger German fanbase that can support these releases. Fox clearly doesn't think it's worth the effort of releasing here, sadly.

Since it's one of my top 10 favorite films ever, I'm just glad it had made it to BD somewhere on earth.
