My local aussie JB store is selling it for AU$25 (or US$19) and then they'll have regular 20% off blurays & dvds days every couple of months. All the not technically 4K blurays are being sold from AU$20 (Lego Movie) or AU$25 like Mad Max. But then the price pretty much doubles for BvS, Deadpool, etc

Amazon has several for $24-26. Ghostbusters II is $22.96 right now. But you're right, the average price for newer releases is the $29.99 price. I'd buy a lot more if they could get the releases to $25 or less.

If it's close to the Vudu UHD quality, then it's pretty awesome. Especially the scenes that have the HUD when Clifton Collins is engaging the Jaegers.

I refused to buy the $29.99 new releases also. I got the $26.99 or $27.99 new releases or less. Besides that I got what I wanted from Best Buys b2g1 4k sale back when the xbox one s came out. Fox connect 30% off code that was even cheaper.i got a b1g1 used coupon from v stock and got 2 uhd titles for $25 total. So I think I almost got 20 uhd discs now and don't think I paid $29.99 for any of them. I think Batman vs. Superman 4k was $29.99 but I got a $5 gift card when I got that, so in my mind that was $24.99 also.

Was disappointed when my Amazon pre-order showed a ship date in November so I was gonna go the BB route as well. To my surprise I found one in stock at my local Navy Exchange of all places (I've seen like 3 UHD titles there since the format came out). So picked it up there and price matched Amazon with no sales tax to boot.

My guess is your gonna need a very good hdr set capable of good black levels and hdr highlights to compete with a 3d viewing. Low end sets will probably be better with 3d, if that's your thing. |

I originally wrote this on Monday - but since I was a new member it told me I had to wait for admin approval....but it never posted and now I can post...anywho
I have the BD copy and a very high bitrate remux of the BD on a hardrive for comparison. The UHD version adds quite the pop. As others said the detail isn't far and above the BD version (like deadpool), but it doesn't look soft either. The colors and the HDR though are very impressive. In my opinion its the best showing of HDR on disk to date. For some it could be a bit too much. I love it, but it could come across as garish to others. The sound is also incredible. It seems more crisp to me than the BD version. And the channel separation on things like the in Jaeger hud notifications come through wonderfully and immersively. The improvement may be my imagination though, wanting it to be better - I can't comment on Atmos as I only have a 7.1 setup. (I need a good excuse to pitch the wife on letting me buy a new receiver.) I'm not disappointed in the double dip at all. It will be a demo disc I use to show off HDR and UHD color. Its a phone pic, so its not going to show the range of course, but like another said - the computer screens and hud graphics really leap off the screen. |
