They're also leaving it pretty late to get pre-orders up of Invention of Destruction if the release date is still 24th September. The Marc Isaacs documentary set is down for release on 8th October, but the only place to pre-order that is still Amazon unfortunately
They told me on Facebook Invention For Destruction it will now be released in October.

I'll probably pre-order both Daisies and Invention of Destruction. Looking forward to getting both!

Invention of Destruction listed on Amazon today, release date of 19th November

Also includes the short film Inspiration which is great, it's the animated film done almost entirely with glass which must have been insanely complicated but also looks amazingly beautiful.

Exciting that we're getting two shorts. I wonder if they've been restored, too.

I stated watching The Miraculous Virgin ysterday, but started nodding off after a while (not due to the film, but a combo of hard day and pain medication). What I saw suggested a dream logic film in the vein of Last Year at Marienbad or Valerie and Her Week of Wonders. Fabulous B&W photography and an interesting score. I will definitely be watching it in full soon.

Sounds great! Day one purchase for me. Hopefully Zeman's Sinbad film will be coming soon.

(And if Paul Jones' voice-over from the episodic BBC showings still exists, that'd be the perfect extra - but I'm getting ahead of myself)

A restoration of Journey to the Beginning of Time is apparently also in the pipeline. Let’s hope it gets a definitive BD release next year. The PQ on The Karel Zeman Mastepiece Collection is adequate but hardly top notch.

Other digitally restored East Bloc sci-fi films Second Run should consider are (at least):

On the Silver Globe:

Sexmission:

O-bi, O-ba, The End of Civilization:

The War of the Worlds: Next Century:

Also Golem and Ga, Ga: Glory to the Heroes by Piotr Szulkin.

Kin-dza-dza!:

I've asked previously about On the Silver Globe, but I think they said they had no plans for any Zulawski. Perhaps Arrow would be interested in that one?

I had also asked them a couple of years ago about The White Reindeer, so was very happy to hear it's finally going to a good home (MoC).

O-Bi O-Ba is one of my personal favourite post apocalyptic films, I would love that on blu ray.

I presume the hold up with the Zulawski restorations is that Polish licensors have put up their prices recently - you'll notice that Second Run haven't released any Polish titles on Blu-Ray, despite restorations being available and them doing so on DVD.

Could someone who has the Silence and Cry Blu-ray release confirm whether or not the subtitles are correctly synced up with the audio? I was just about to watch this, only to find that the subtitles come in a solid half-second too early.

Beaver review of Daisies.

I don't like to criticise Second Run but there seems to be macro blocking in black or dark areas. Check out the guys suit in the first cap.

We knew these were coming, but there's confirmation now that Diamonds of the Night is coming in January next year, and Dawson City Frozen Time is at some point in 2019. Looks like no releases in December 2018 then.

http://www.secondrundvd.com/comingsoon.html

I hope one of these gets added to HMV soon, I'm absolutely flummoxed about what I want to pair Invention for Destruction with in the 2 for £25 offer

I assume you got Daisies already? That's in the 2 for £25 as well...

Good news about Diamonds of the Night. Not sure I'll be able to get it in January as there's a lot else on that month but if I can get it with, say, BFI's Orphée in the 2 for £25 maybe I could afford it. Also good to get more Bill Morrison so I'll grab that at some point too!

Upgrade for Ikarie XB-1 next year please if we're allowed requests!

I didn't notice that, but I'm so used to watching terrible copies of Jancso's films (i.e downloads or ones not released by Second Run) that I'm perhaps more lenient when the picture looks good.

The blu looks so much better than the old dvd which wasn't even in the correct aspect ratio.
