I recently downloaded Spiderman 2 and 3 open matte versions (ratio 1.85:1). I am totally convinced now that these versions truly represent the way each frame was intended to be captured by Sam Raimi.

I wish more fans were aware of that so that we could ask Sony to give us the movies with this ratio for the UHD releases (instead of 2.38:1)

I doubt that. You just see more image... the cinemagraphic framing isn't correct, however.

The movies in open matte make much more sense than the release in a LOT of frames. One can't ignore that. You should take a look for yourself. Spiderman 3 open matte is available as HDTv rip at rutracker

You think Raimi couldn't frame them in 1.85 if he wanted to? You're subverting his wishes via piracy to watch them how YOU prefer, which is gross dude.

The documentary on the SM2 DVD shows Sam Raimi talking about making the change to 2.35 for the sequel, how he changed the size of the front spider on the suit specifically for the new aspect ratio. So, 2.35 is factually how he intended for 2 and 3 to be viewed.

Didn't he switch to scope for 2 because with flat he couldn't get Spidey and Ock in the frame together?

That's not true at all. Sam specifically changed the aspect ratio to 2.35:1 in Spider-man 2 because he wanted to fit Doc Ock, his tentacles and Spider-man in the same frame.

It's dumb this isn't out now. If it was it would have movie credit for Homecoming like the blu-ray set does... a film I'm honestly not as gung ho about seeing as you'd think.

Really want the new Steelbook set with Spidey 3.1 but I wanna hold out for UHDs... it's getting tougher to do so.

these are coming, the steelbook thread has the new release date for these on 4k, a member there got an order in for the 4k colleciton before it was removed and was sent an email by bestbuy letting him know of the new release date

i think its coming out when the new movie comes out home media 4k

Meh, I've got the Mi4K editions of the first two and the excellent original 2-disc BD for Spidey 3 so I'm good to hold on. One would hope that the UHDs will come with the same BD discs as this latest trilogy re-release, especially as the UHDs themselves will likely be the theatrical cuts only.

The 4K UHD versions of Spider-Man 1-3 are going to come out in October the same time as Spider-Man Homecoming Blu Ray the reason why it didn't come out on June 13 because I'm guessing SONY is taking their time on the release.
