I was surprized to see the Book of the Dead (sp) in this!
Does this make it an unofficial sequel?

It's my headcanon that Jenny is Rick and Evey's great-granddaughter.

The Mummy (2017) was a blind buy for me and luckily wasn't a bad one. I just finished watching it and didn't see any reason as to why it was critically panned and poorly received by audiences. Yes, I did notice a bit of variety in its tone, which critics said was jarring, but I found the tonal shifts to be fun; in some moments the film was surprisingly and effectively horrifying and in others it was comedic, but I think that the latter mood served as good levity rather than as an odd, inappropriate contrast to the overall tone of the movie.

Additionally, I really enjoyed the Easter eggs placed through out the film in order to hint at other characters in the cinematic universe to which The Mummy (2017) belongs, The Dark Universe, such as Dracula and Frankenstein's monster. My most favored of these Easter eggs is the most obvious of them, Doctor Henry Jeckyll (portrayed by Russel Crowe), whose transformation is subtle yet dramatic. The sight of him and the Mummy in the same scene was exciting as it brought to mind the possibilities of seeing other characters from Universal's Monsters Universe together on screen.

Furthermore, the acting was good all around; everyone portrayed their characters well and entertainingly, with Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella providing the most compelling performances. Nothing needs to be said about Cruise, because he's done so many films that we all know what to expect from him. However, in regard to Boutella, a fairly new actress, it must be said that with just a little but passionately delivered dialogue, a strong sensual gaze, and an erotic gait, she delivers a fantastic performance; she seemed to have a lot of fun portraying the Mummy (Princess Ahmanet), and I had a lot of fun watching her.

Finally, let's talk about the film's technical aspects. The Mummy features quite a few beautiful, breathtaking vistas of the Egyptian desert and London, England, thanks to the high dynamic range of its UHD transfer. The earthly tones of Iraqi sand dunes are strikingly bold and well gradated, and the metallic blues and silvers of skyscrapers, as well as the various shades of brown of concrete structures, realistically convey the pristine artificiality of a metropolis.

It should also be mentioned that the film has very good visual effects; the zombified servants of the Mummy, the liquid mercury that is regurgitated by Ahmanet, the monsterfied face of Morton post his possession by the god of death, etc, are all rendered in such a way that gives them a sense of weight and tangibility that enabled me to suspend my disbelief.

Overall, I really like this movie; it's suspenseful, action-packed, horrifying, and funny.

Rating: Fun popcorn flick with solid acting, beautiful cinematography, and solid visual effects.

Shouldn't it be somewhere between the SDR en HDR?
I have the feeling the SDR skin tone is too light and the HDR too much.
At least that would be my preference.

Yeah I dunno. Not trying to pick on the guy but again he's messing with a TV with no wide color and low nits, so it's gonna be a crapshoot getting it to look "correct."

I don't have the UHD version myself yet, so can't compare it.

Since he's using an LG set he might have Vivid mode on or Colour Gamut set to Wide. With LG sets you need to be on HDR Standard or Cinema with Colour Gamut set to Normal, being on Vivid or having Colour Gamut set to Wide (Vivid mode locks Colour Gamut to Wide) over-saturates colours. For correct colours, Colour Gamut should be set to Normal.

I watched the movie and took the second picture in HDR Standard mode with Color Gamut set to Wide. I always watch movies with these settings. Also, isn't Wide necessary to enjoy the expanded color space of HDR?

Furthermore, in the following image that's taken from this site's own review, skin tones appear to be orange as well.

Edit:

Also, skin tones don't look orange in other films that I own in UHD, such as Allied, which takes place in a sunny desert as does the scene from which I took the pictures above in The Mummy. So, I think that skin tones are supposed to look as they do in the pictures I posted of The Mummy being displayed on my TV.

Why doesn't someone take post pictures of the film running on their set in HDR Standard for comparison? I'd like to see that.

LG mislabelled the setting. HDR content should be viewed with Colour Gamut set to normal. In HDR; Colour Gamut Normal IS Wide Colour Gamut. The setting should really be called "Colour boost" or something like that since it doesn't activate Wide Colour Gamut, it just boosts colours to oversaturation. Even though movies may look better with colour Gamut set to wide at first, switch between wide and normal on a colourful scene and you'll see how much colour definition and gradation you're losing by having it set to wide.

Alas I can't use The Mummy as an example as I've preordered the HMV steelbook which isn't out until October but if I remember I'll use some other films as examples when I get home from work.

But colour Gamut should be set to normal. Wide oversaturates and unnaturally boosts the colours. If you want more vibrant colour, you'd be better off adjusting the colour value to around 60-65.

Think of the settings like this:

Normal - Auto

Extended - Adjusted

Wide - Boosted

Wide colour Gamut is enabled by default for HDR content.

Thanks. Good to know. I wonder why they haven't fixed this in an update.

I think the normal mode really looks better
In your settings screenshots I saw you have the brightness at 50. I have lowered it to 49. It made everything a little more black. With 50 I found GotG vol2, Passengers and GitS too grey-ish. Just give it a try.

I'm fine with 50; I find that tuning the black level helps with blacks and colors overall. Also, I have not noticed any grayish coloring/ tinge.
