I just finished watching King Kong 4k UHD that came out today on my Sony 4k 55" tv. One word, STUNNING!! Details, color killed the already blu ray copy. The opening city street shots had a lot of depth and detail. The jungle scenes looked like you are on the set with them with very rich blacks and details on all the rocks and walls. Some of the cgi scenes are more noticeable but the dinosaur stampede scene looked amazing w a lot of detail on them and the ground around them. Best Buy, Walmart and Frys have it for $19.99 along with the 4K UHD of Fifth Element that also came out today.

Yeah, plus a three disc case without eco holes. It feels hefty and like a really nice package. Doubt I'll ever watch the extras but happy they're included.

So after reading the feedback I went ahead and purchased and I can attest it does look fantastic. However now that I bought it I'm sort of kicking myself because I'm definitely purchasing the new Kong next week as well.
Not sure I need two King Kong movies lol. |

So I'm looking at the 4k uhd right now and it looks pretty bad. Its way too bright in its brights, to the point of being washed out. Itmnight be my tv (2015 Vizio m so no HDR) or player (Xbox S), but the Universal opening logo, before the movie starts, meaning before the menu even showed up, looked stunning.

Has anyone ever gotten a case that is splattered with some weird residue? It completely covers the inside of the case including the floating disc holder. It wipes off, so I'm wondering if anyone knows what this stuff is?
Upon opening: ![]() Here is after I wiped half of the case down: ![]() Posting this here since its the inside of the King Kong 4k case. Last edited by dannydeez; 07-12-2017 at 12:34 AM. |

I can't imagine watching UHD discs without any HDR - it would seem pretty pointless to me. Also, are people even calibrating for HDR? Are there demo discs/clips out there to do basic adjustments like there is for standard viewing, like the Disney WOW or AVS discs? I have a feeling everyone is getting a different HDR experience. So it makes it hard to know what to make of comments and reviews. |

I'm guessing it must be some kind of manufacturing residue maybe? Or like you said, maybe some kind of "sweating" from that particular kind of plastic? I always worry if I should clean off the inside of the case or leave it. I usually leave it, but it does make me wonder if it has any long-term effect on the disc surface. It may not touch the disc surface, but it's darn close to it.

The wider problem is that the calibration controls inside most displays are not geared towards actually adjusting the HDR response curve across the brightness scale, e.g. we've got a gamma slider to bring that up or down but no ST 2084 slider, say. According to Stacey Spears most HDR TVs still process images according to conventional video gamma at their core, so in order to actually show HDR it needs an inverse gamma applied to undo the inevitable application of gamma to the signal, and therefore it's no surprise that most calibration controls aren't geared towards actually correcting HDR as an HDR signal, if that makes sense. But even if everyone had access to proper calibration there would still be quite a difference across user experiences because of the variances in display types, variances in mapping techniques and also variances in performance from model to model within those ranges. This is what makes HDR reviews such a bust right now. Last edited by Geoff D; 07-12-2017 at 01:39 AM. |

Outgassing? I saw that all the time with HD DVD cases. Also with BD cases, but not nearly as often. |

I'd almost swear that enthusiasts will replace a thousand discs over and over with new remasters, spending who knows how much, but who won't save up to improve the look of an entire collection. |
