I’ve watched this movie dozens of times but the vast majority has been on a VHS that was taped from a TV broadcast in the early 90s. I have no idea what this was originally supposed to look like so I will very much be relying on the opinions in this thread when it comes to whether or not they blow the transfer.

Yeah, I know (although II was still very cheaply photographed), but since both films are under the same home video distributor again, it would interesting if Lionsgate chooses to release only II. I believe the 2012 BD was a new scan, though I’m not sure at what resolution.

Although WB is hit and miss with catalog titles on 4K IMO. Most of the time it feels like they aren't releasing as many 4K titles as we would like.

I think about this time last year it was a rumor that POLTERGEIST was coming to 4K UHD but then nothing ever happened. The good thing about a POLTERGEIST release would be WB doesn't have to worry about people begging for extras for a 4K release because they usually don't get anything beyond a commentary on a 4K disc as far as bonus features go.
Waiting for Warner’s to release The Exorcist on UHD Blu-ray.

I was hoping that would be this year given its 45th ann and since it already has a 4K scan.

It’s only July so we have lots of time left. Will be an exciting announcement when it happens.

Any John Carpenter is an exciting announcement. My second favorite John Carpenter? Now that is exciting.

We're also overdue on "The Shining". Warners has to announce some classic horror in 4K for October.

I'd be very surprised if The Exorcist doesn't come out sooner rather than later.

Warners know it's a big seller.

Based on what I dug up from the director himself, it appears that WB completed a 4K restoration of The Exorcist several years ago and I would imagine they have completed an HDR re-grade this year to have it ready for the 45th Anniversary showings, as there's obviously a few generations who haven't really seen what all the hype is about.

I'm excited to see that so many others watch this with the original mono track. That's one of the biggest things that'll make or break this release for me -- whether it will have the original mono track in a lossless format or not.

I just hate that it's Warner that has it. We all know they don't have the greatest UHD track record.

I would assume it won't have the original mono.

Warner are notorious for dumping the original audio.

You'll get a spanking new 7.1 mix and that's it.

Unless some of you Americans want to start an e-mail campaign...

It's going to be a great autumn this year with (UHD) Blu-ray releases.

Since I don't own any of the Halloween films (besides the Zombie ones), I will be getting this as well as Shout Factory's upcoming Halloween II release.

Discounting the hit-or-miss Nolan titles, stuff like Blade Runner, Unforgiven and The Matrix have been great.

Be nice if they sent out an Elm St. collection. Those BDs are poor and so an easy upgrade double dip.
The first one is as much a classic and important as Halloween imo.

I like the Elm Street and would welcome a 4K but it doesn’t come close to Halloween for me.

Well, considering The Exorcist wasn’t released until December 26th, we’ll still have all next year until the 26th of December to be under that 45th anniversary window. I have faith it will happen.
