This is with WB, so it will come (hopefully) from WAC.

Great movie, yeah, and long one of my favorites, but as McCrutchy points out, it's with WB. So, a third-party release is unlikely, unless it's one of the many titles Criterion has apparently licensed from WB.

When I revisited it over 20 years later, I just “got it.” Its humor is pretty bone dry and a little mean. It worked a lot better for me in my 40s than it did my 20s. Maybe the same will be true for you. That horrific YouTube rip, which I’ve seen, is really putting the film behind the eight ball. Bill Fraker’s photography of big sky country deserves much better.
I love RANCHO DELUXE and I can't wait to see how the cinematography looks on this Blu-ray. The old DVD looked like they'd smeared mud all over a pair of binoculars. This movie should look gorgeous. And the whole hangout/rambling 70's vibe fits this movie and its bittersweet, often cynical eulogy for the "Old West" perfectly. Getting announcements for this, THE FRESHMAN (1990) and LET IT RIDE (1989) have made my BD release year already. Two of my most wanted discs.

I hope Criterion licensed it because, with the situation at Warner Archive, I doubt we'll see a release. Hopefully indeed.

With my last Vinegar Syndrome order I received Alphabet City. I thought this was a VS title, not Fun City Editions. I wasn't even aware of this label.

Just received Alphabet City today. Really can't wait to see what else FCE brings us.

I've been on a Downey kick since rewatching the VS release of Putney Swope last week, and another one I'd like to see get an improved release is Hugo Pool which I'm surprised hasn't had an upgrade already from someone considering it has Downey Jr, Sean Penn and Malcolm McDowell in the cast. No idea who has the rights though.

Any chance for John Sayles MGM titles? Such a great director with too few titles on Blu-Ray.

Speaking of Sayles, if Fun City could perform a miracle and get ALLIGATOR we will be forever in your debt (although this one might not be in the FCE wheelhouse I guess?).

That's a tough one, isn't it, rights-wise?

It must be, otherwise it should've been out on blu already. I think it might be with Lionsgate but I don't know? Sayles' script is full of great dialogue though that really elevates this above it's genre (like he did with PIRANHA and THE HOWLING as well).

Any idea why there was no booklet included with Alphabet City?

Yes, well, Lionsgate definitely tends to be a nonstarter, but I thought there was something more distinctive about this film's rights snafu. I'll ask around.

I just saw the DVD Talk review of I Start Counting and thought - again - that this has been a "hold my beer" kind of label launch. So far two outstanding releases of two great movies, and I'm excited that there are still gems out there to discover. I can't help contrasting it with constant re-releases and stuff like all the many VS releases - *ducks for cover* - that sell mainly because of the heavy doses of lipstick that's been applied.

Thank you, willieconway. Love that characterization of FCE.

To be fair to VS, though, much of their catalog is "new to disc" or "new to Blu-ray."

Yeah, I was a bit hash. I'll continue buying some of their releases but I have to get better at researching them first.

Anyway, this is about FCE and you're 2 for 2. Thanks!
