Is it just me or does Loomis sound Australian when he tells Laurie to "get out now" at the end of the movie before the explosion

His performance in the original is perfect. Very subtle and convincing. In part 2 he amped it up to 11.

But if you think about it, the way Loomis acts in the 2nd movie is perfect. Would you be acting all calm and subtle after a mental patient you are responsible for ends up killing 4 people in one day and still walks away after getting shot 6 times? After all that carnage the people still don't believe Loomis and think he is the psycho yet completely underestimate Michael Myers. Sure the off the rails performance is unintentionally funny at times, it still works for the situation.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I love him in it and he's the saving grace of all of the ones he's in, but he can't help but come off a little campy the more he has to go through the same motions again and again...

Yeah, Loomis has nothing new to do in Halloween II, and so, it's a lot of paraphrased dialogue from the first film or him just going off the deep end a bit in his reactions. Granted, by Halloween 5 he's just completely lost his mind altogether, and it's entertaining as all hell. Still, if Pleasance had more of that troubled undercurrent from the first film in the second I think it would've given more gravitas to Loomis overall.

Anyone else think it's a missed opportunity to not give Michael 7 bullet wounds on the cover instead of 6. I think it would be funny to lean into the obvious mistake. I'm sure Trancas wouldn't approve the art or Shout would even ask the artist to add a 7th wound. Just a dumb thought.

I always registered it as more of a thick Texas accent, but now that you mention it, I guess it does also sound kind of like Australian.

I love Donald Pleasance but in Halloween 4 and 5 he was WAY over the top in his performances. The ending of 4 when he was screaming "No!" a 100 times.... It's real silly.... To me. His performances in the first 2 films is best

I've always enjoyed the way he casually steals Deputy Hunt's lighter right in front of him, then proceeds to use it for the rest of the movie.

That never dawned on me until reading your post. That lighter is the one he used at the end. I never put that together lol

I love Pleasence’s performance at the end of H4. Loomis realizes that’s it’s happening all over again, just with a different child (or so we were lead to believe), and there’s nothing he can do about it. Without that performance the ending wouldn’t have been as strong as it is.

I have a majorly unpopular opinion to get off my chest. Please note that I love Halloween, it has been among my top favorite films for over 20 years, but...

I do feel Donald Pleasance's performance in Carpenter's film is a tad overrated by the fanboys. Overall it's quite good, but he does have some moments of really flat line delivery -- most notably in the car with Marion. His line "You haven't anything to worry about, he hasn't spoken a word in fifteen years" makes me cringe every time because it's so monotone.

The only moment I dislike in the original Halloween is when Laurie says, 'Well, kiddo, I thought you outgrew superstition.' It makes me want to die.

I think he delivered that line of dialogue perfectly. That's the first piece of information we're given about Michael in the 15 yrs since stabbing his sister to death.

Pleasance was starting to lay the groundwork into Michael's psyche as an adult and his serious monotone inflection was chilling and foreboding of what was to come.

Yes, it's a good line and has good narrative intentions -- but his delivery is pretty poor. It sounds like he's reading it for the first time off a cue card. Again, overall I think he gave a great performance and the character is one of the best in horror, but the fans make it out to be one of the greatest performances of all time and it's simply not.

I think the line is delivered perfectly. I always look at it that he's trying to downplay any possible danger Michael may pose at that point.

If he'd started out at 80mph like in H4 "He is EVIL on TWO LEGS!!" then he likely wouldn't have gotten Marion in the car!
