Kino’s standard disc is the old MGM master. So you might wanna cancel that.

Yeah it's going back. It already shipped.

Could they have just accidentally stuck the MGM master BD in with that particular UHD combo release? The review on this site states the included BD is from the new 4K remaster.

Are you saying the accompanying BD in the 4K set is not from the same master as what is used for the 4K disc? Or that there is a separate BD release and that one is a different master?

I'm just confused as to why Kino would even bother issuing the new standalone Blu-ray if it's just using the old MGM master. You have a new 4K master, why wouldn't they use that?!

I can sort of understand just throwing an old Blu into the new 4K UHD combo pack, but still...

So confused here.

Yeah it'd be one thing if this was Kino's M.O. but they generally put the remaster on the BD too. Then again this is Kino so logic isn't really involved here.

More like MGM's M.O. If not for Kino, the only UHDBDs from the MGM catalog would be of Daniel Craig Bond films.

There are at least two examples from Scream of MGM releases where the UHD is paired with remastered BDs.

Seems like a Kino thing to me.

But if not for Kino (and Scream) you wouldn't have a UHDBD master available at all for BD remastering (or not).

I wasn't trying to create an exhaustive list. My point was MGM can't be bothered with UHDBD unless (a) it's a Daniel Craig Bond film or (b) a boutique label licenses it for UHDBD, leading to complications for regular BD. I doubt the Amazon deal will change that in any way.

I understand. One would hope Kino, Arrow, etc can keep making the magic happen, even after Amazon fully takes control. We'll see what happens.

Um, I think you have to actually see the disc. Those screencaps are OK for a quick first impression but don't tell the whole story and you know it. I doubt there's any sharpening (I don't see it), just a bit more contrast to the flatter Arrow release (which is pretty flat).
