I heard rumors of a 4k restoration coming out, anyone have any information regarding this?

Freaking Caligula can get a 4K restoration, but we can't get on on the original Star Wars trilogy?!

I've always been kind of curious about this movie, but I don't know if I have the stomach for it. Is the Imperial BD OOP now?

I'll take Caligula over Star Wars any day. But seriously, I know your pain.

Yes, the Imperial BD is now OOP. I know the French bluray has superior audio and picture, but has forced French subtitles.

Yeah it's OOP, but the Arrow version from the U.K. is region free and not expensive.

Some players allow you to move the subtitles off the screen. My old Panasonic allowed this, but their newer players don't, as they changed chips and the new chip they're using doesn't support that feature. I don't know about about brands. For those who can do that, or can override forced subs, or for those that rip their discs to their HTPC (which would allow you to drop the forced subs), I highly recommend the French disc. The Arrow disc is also excellent and packed with extras, but the French release does use a better master.

I'm still waiting for my copy of the Arrow edition to arrive after ordering it during the last Arrow sale. This has been a title on my want list for awhile having only ever seen bits and pieces of it. I'm looking forward to finally seeing it in all it's infamy.

Why do French discs always do that?!

Misses the commentaries though.

Like I said, I don't know if I could stomach it it or not, and if you have to ask ....

Which version should I watch if I do, there are two on the disc?

I'm pretty sure I read that Star Wars was done in 4K but just never released.

It was an Image title in the U.S., and the Arrow UK BD apparently uses that same master, so maybe Arrow will release a dual territory 4K restoration on Blu. That would be cool. Never seen this but have always been curious.

Good to know about the commentaries. I have the Imperial Edition; I don’t own the Arrow disc. I think you should watch the full uncut version first.

For realsies?

I'd throw my friends and family into boiling lava to obtain a remastered edition of Caligula.

I don't think there was ever a completed workprint to begin with, at least not one edited with Tinto Brass' involvement. He was basically booted off the film during post-production. There's extracts from his unfinished workprint on the Arrow BD.

If you're referring to the 'pre-release cut,' it's basically a glorified fan-edit that replaces the hardcore material with outtakes and reshuffles a couple of scenes.

I've been confused with this from the beginning. Are they going to do a restoration or document or something else or what???

According to Kelly Holland current President of Penthouse they really want to go thru all the footage methodically they want to scan the negative at 4K and possibly try to reassemble a true Tinto Brass cut.

again lots of info in the podcast

the footage was so close to being trashed.

Kelly Holland also stated there was a company who wanted to handle the 4K scans and in my mind I kept thinking Please Please let it end up being Vinegar Syndrome. (they do scans for other releases than their own) and they are great at it. No revisionism B.S.

HOLY HELL!! That would be... I don't even have a word for that. It just sounds too good to be truth, and that is little too close to that when something goes wrong. I hope from all my heart that there's going to be some ground breaking announcement from the project.
