Just got done watching the premiere. I liked it more than I thought I would, but I always like everything the awesome Michael Kudlitz does. He really impressed me on Band of Brothers, and I was very happy to see him again on Life, but now that he's in one of the leads I am going to watch this. It's not that the show was anything great, no cop shows hold up to the true grittiness of the Shield, but I do love the casting. Nice to see C. Thomas Howell after so long, Tom Everett Scott is usually pretty good, he was last season on Sons of Anarchy. I will give this a few more tries before I pass judgment, besides I don't really think I'll need to, NBC will do that for me when they cancel this for more Jay Leno, because at the end of the day, people will always choose Leno over quality programming and shows with talent.

Let's review the problem here:

Thursdays:

8:00-8:30PM - My Name Is Earl
8:30-9:00PM - Parks and Recreation
9:00-9:30PM - The Office
9:30-10:00PM - 30 Rock
10:00-11:00 - Southland

However the fall lineup will have the 10:00-11:00 block filled with Leno.....So that means at least 1 of those have to go, and even if Parks is canceled that is only a 30 minute time block. So the only hope is that NBC cancels Earl and Parks, which is a possibility and fine by me, because they can't really move it to another night because all other time slots are already filled. Even if one show from every night is canceled, 5 must go in order to accommodate Leno. Still think they will give this interesting new show a fair chance? Only time will tell.

I liked the show ok, however I would rather not to be forced to hear them bleeping words. I would rather they script the product for regular TV.
Will give it two more shows to develop before deciding if it is a regular watch for me.

Not quite sure why they did the word bleeping, to give it that reality feel maybe? I thought it was rather obnoxious though that two kids from the OC where in one episode. The rookie and the long haired dude that got pulled over. In high school my ex used to make me watch that horrible show every week with her, and I remember all those little bastards faces and bad enough that show left a bad taste in my mouth over the rookie Ben, but come on another kid from the OC in the pilot?

I could not figure out who the kid was who's house they raided first though, he looked very familiar but I couldn't place him, anybody know?

One good way to ensure cancellation of your show is to cast Kevin Alejandro. He's doomed Shark, Sleeper Cell and Drive, interestingly he has the same effect on tv shows as Nathan Filion, and they where both in Drive so that show was double dead. It was nice to see Shawn Hatosy again, I think last time I saw him was in Alpha Dog.

I caught that as well with the scene with Ben and that punk Oliver kid. What I kinda noticed is that Oliver was acting like he recognized Ben when he said something like "You're a cop now? You went from acting to being a cop?" I was thinking the scene was kinda mocking the O.C. thereafter when Oliver said something to Ben about "Why dont you call your dad and he can get me out" or somethig like that. Kinda ironic Ben McKenzie's character is named Ben as well. Or maybe its to have a realistic feel. Either way, pretty cool show overall imo.

Default Southland- Renewed for Season 3!

Woo!

Here is the TNT press release:
TNT Renews Acclaimed Series SOUTHLAND for Third Season

TNT has booked a third season of its critically acclaimed drama SOUTHLAND, from Warner Bros. Television and Emmy®-winning producer John Wells (ER, The West Wing). The network has ordered 10 episodes for the third season, which is slated to begin airing in January 2011.

“SOUTHLAND is a challenging, visceral show that engages viewers with its immersive style, provocative storylines and complex characters,” said Michael Wright, executive vice president, head of programming, for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies (TCM). “These qualities have made SOUTHLAND a favorite among critics and appointment viewing for an extremely loyal audience.”

Created by Emmy® winner Ann Biderman (NYPD Blue, Public Enemies), SOUTHLAND takes a raw, authentic look at police work in Los Angeles. The series focuses on officers, detectives and members of a gang unit as they endure the triumphs and tragedies that populate their lives both on and off the job. The series is shot on location in the streets and neighborhoods of Los Angeles.

SOUTHLAND’s ensemble cast includes Kevin Alejandro (Drive, Ugly Betty); Arija Bareikis (Crossing Jordan); Clifton Collins Jr. (Capote, Star Trek); Michael Cudlitz (Band of Brothers, A River Runs Through It); Shawn Hatosy (Alpha Dog); Regina King (Ray, Jerry Maguire); Michael McGrady (The Thin Red Line, Day Break); Ben McKenzie (The O.C.); and Tom Everett Scott (Boiler Room, That Thing You Do). SOUTHLAND is executive-produced by Wells, Biderman and Emmy® winner Christopher Chulack (ER, Third Watch), who also serves as a primary director of the series.

TNT picked up SOUTHLAND after the series was dropped by NBC prior to the launch of its second season. TNT presented an encore of the seven-episode first season beginning in January 2010, followed by a premiere run of the six-episode second season beginning in March 2010.

For its second season on TNT, SOUTHLAND has averaged 2.7 million viewers, with 1.4 million adults 18-49 and adults 25-54. The show enjoys great loyalty among viewers, as shown by the use of time-shifted viewing. According to the most recent Live + 7 deliveries, the second season of SOUTHLAND has grown its total audience by 50% compared to Live viewing (26% compared to Live + Same Day). Among adults 18-49, the boost is 68% vs. Live (32% vs. Live + Same Day). Among adults 25-54, the bump is 62% vs. Live (33% vs. Live + Same Day). The show’s median age (47) is the lowest of any TNT original series.

Warner Bros. I'm glad to see it back. It didn't deliver The Closer type ratings, but it did well.

I'm sure they're happy it also attracts a younger audience, which is pushed in their press release. Probably one of the factors, plus it did deliver consistently in ratings. So an audience is loyal. DVD/blu ray sales should be good too.

Oh yeah well mine was the entire series thread so THERE! Not to mention your thread won't become fun until next January, mine parties all year long.

See Officer Ben Sherman running with the great news away from your thread, all the way over to mine......
